So, on Valentine's day, I had my rings cleaned while I was at the mall. The next day, total itchy ring finger! And it was like peeling. So, I put some neosporin on it and slept with my ring off that night, and it seemed to be better.
Well, this morning I was watching TV and my ring finger was itching like crazy. I took my fings off, and OMG, total redness and peeling again. WTF? I've worn my e-ring for a full year and almost 5 months now. And I've worn my wedding band for almost 5 months. Would it really just now be having a reaction or something? And why only like 2 weeks ago and now again?

I haven't been like washing my hands or the dishes or anything more than usual. And I never wear it in the shower.

TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermThat's what I figured it was, the first time, back on Valentinen's Day. But, it's been worn every day since then, so wouldn't it have worn off by now (with normal hand washing?) But either way, I will try this when I get home. My rings are in the safe at home right now, and I feel totes naked.

I have the SAME EXACT THING! It's terrible! I've been back to the jeweler several times. The first time this happened was right before the wedding. I went in the day before our wedding and the lady at the store didn't even look at my finger. She just said that water is getting under there causing a FUNGUS to grow and told me to go buy some jock itch cream (yeah, seriously). So, I freaked out and didn't wear my rings for 2 weeks and put the cream on religiously. It eventually healed, but it is now happening again. I NEVER wear my rings when I shower or wash my hands and the cream is NOT working. I went back this past weekend and she said that even though I'm not getting them wet it's probably just sweat that is causing it. :-/
Honestly, I think I might be allergic to nickel which is the alloy contained in white gold. When the rhodium starts to wear off it exposes more of the nickel. It's getting so bad I think I need to do to the doctor. Certainly seems like it's time for a second opinion...
Sorry you are dealing with this, but glad to know I am not alone.

I wonder if it's the same thing for me? Maybe.
Is it possible to get white gold dipped or something, into platinum?

I didn't know about the water, though...I usually never take off my rings, but I'll make sure to dry under my rings better!
I have had finger issued too... but I am allergic to some unknown metals (some rivets on jeans make me welt up, and I cannot use surgical steel), so that is probably my problem. I can only wear my rings for about 4 days and then have to leave them off for 2 -3 days for my finger to heal.
Eventually we will upgrade from white gold to platinum. Eventually...
Seems right that it would have been the cleaner the first time, but strange that it would've happened again without the cleaner, at least in my opinion.
Perhaps you are, as you or someone else stated, minorly (is that a word?) allergic to the metal...
My jewelers (brothers who are also good friends of ours) said to clean my ring in half water, half rubbing alcohol (which I do at least weekly). Maybe try that and see if it takes out any detergents or anything that are left on it?

Yes, or you can get them dipped in palladium, which is what my rings are entirely made of. Palladium's cheaper.
