BR: dumb question

So maybe its my nasty cold, but what do I need to take for drake for at the hospital? I have a diaper bag packed with all the essentials but will we need that? I don't want to over pack or end up forgetting something, we can't just run home. Our hospital is an hour away on a good day, so we have to make sure we've got everything. Tia!

Re: BR: dumb question

  • i dont know for sure- I am sure MB and Ames can help (as well as Kelly and others) but they told us to pack outfits if we wanted them, car seat and blankets we wanted to bring them home in, a hat if we wanted one special but diapers, wipes, nuk, other items will be given to us at the hospital... no need to bring them. I would call the hospital to see if you need these items and go from there.

  • For Teaghan I packed a few little sleepers to put her in for when ppl are visiting and a coming home outfit. I also put a swaddler and a blanket. When we are ready to go home H will bring the carseat up but thats it, everything else is provided.

*you don't have to bring extra outfits if you don't want to, the hospital will provide a t-shirt and they will swaddle the baby in a blanket, I am just bringing them cause I want to put her in cute outfits.

  • Thanks ladies, that's pretty much what I was thinking but I just wanted to make sure. I guess I'm just over thinking things. I'm so ready for him to be here.

  • Here is my list:

    Hospital Bag:

[ ] Printed copies of our birth plan
[ ] Car seat - installed in car
    [ ] Wallet w/ insurance card
    [ ] My pillow
    [ ] Eucalyptus massage oil
    [ ] Small fan
    [ ] Extra clothes:
[ ] Yoga Pants, Tank top, Long sleeved shirt/sweater

[ ] Going home outfit for baby
    [ ] Newborn diapers
    [ ] Wipes
    [ ] Laptop & power cord
    [ ] Camera
    [ ] Cellphones & chargers

    [ ] Toothbrushes & toothpaste
    [ ] Makeup Bag
    [ ] Shampoo
    [ ] Face wash
    [ ] Brush
[ ] Blow dryer & Hair Straightener (yeah whatever, I know I probably won't care and won't use them but I want to have them so I have the option should I want to.)
    [ ] Snacks (Animal Crackers)

Given that we didn't really think we'd be delivering on the day we did, neither Joel or I  had any other clothes to wear since I hadn't packed them in the bag yet thinking we still had two or three weeks left.  Definitely pack those comfy clothes!  The diapers and wipes weren't necessary because the hospital provides them for you.

I also didn't have the blow dryer & hair straightener packed, which I only regretted when my co-workers stopped by (since I work at the hopsital we gave birth in) but of course everyone understands that you're not going to look your best at that point lol.

I wish we had packed more snacks.  The food was okay but we ended up buying a lot of extra snacks from the cafeteria, especially for Joel because while the hospital feeds the mom, they don't feed the dad.

I also wish I had packed my slippers or at least slipper socks of some kind and hair ties!

Okay, that's all I can think of right now.

  • -Car seat

    -Insurance stuff and id

-Pillow or special blanket if you have one

    -Slippers/slipper socks

    -Nursing Bra

    -Comfy clothes

    -Music

    -Phones/chargers

    -Toiletries

    -Camera/video camera

-Money/change for vending machine and food

    -Going home outfit/hat/mittens

    -Receiving blanket

-Boppy pillow (actually forgot it, but when Weston had to stay for the week I had Floyd get it.  It really helped since Weston was having a hard time latching and made it easier since he was connected to a whole bunch of wires)

    -Puzzle Book

I had a few people tell me to bring my own underwear/pads because the mesh underwear and diaper sized pads weren?t that pleasant.  I brought them but didn?t use them until I was discharged and just staying in hospital with Weston.  This is way TMI but I was bleeding so unbelievably bad for the first few days that my underwear would have been destroyed and normal pads would?ve been useless.

That?s all I can think of.

  • I brought a lot of stuff but we were also being induced so I knew we might be there for a while...

    Lip balm
    hair ties

magazines(glad I had them, there was a lot of waiting around at first)

water bottle with straw(they have cups and straws of course, I just liked my own)

Boppy nursing pillow(so glad I brought this! made it easier for nursing and also when people were holding him)

Maternity fold down yoga pants(I wore these home)
    Nursing tanks
    Sleep bras/nursing bras
    Going home outfit for P
receiving blankets(didn't use, just used the hospitals)
    toiletries for L and I
    change of clothes for L
    socks
slippers(didn't use, just wore flip flops when walking around)
    flip flops
    Birth class packets
Birth wishes/plan(that went out the window! haha)
    Camera and battery charger
    Phones and phone chargers
tennis balls for back massage(didn't use)
    Lotion
eyeglasses and contacts case and solution
bathrobe(didn't use, just wore the gowns from the hospital)
    vitamins
bathing suit for tub(didn't end up wearing a bathing suit, just wore a sleep bra in there)
baby book(was able to get his footprints in there so I am glad we brought it)
    copy of pre-registration forms
    insurance card
some cash for parking and the cafeteria
    car seat
diaper bag to bring extra things home in for P

All the things like pads, mesh undies, nursing pads, gown, creams, etc. I just used from the hospital.   I am so glad I didn't try to use any of my own things because they would have been ruined pretty quickly or not necessary since they supplied them.

  • Oh and as far as things for P, they supplied all the diapers, wipes, creams and swaddle blankets we needed for him while he was there so we didn't need to bring any of that.
