New to Waterville, Maine

So, my boyfriend and I moved to Maine (from Missouri) to be closer to his family.  It has been wonderful but I have had a difficult time adjusting to my new community.  Sad to say, I'm not sure what there is interesting to do in the area.  Also, we have had a hard time meeting new people.  Any suggestions Nesties?
- Mollie

  • Welcome to the Board!

Here you will find a very welcoming and supportive group of ladies. We do GTGs sometimes, feel free to jump in to one. I went to my first recently and it was good.

Most of the women live in southern Maine, but there is a growing number of us from central Maine, and there's Angel from The County.

I'm Sarah, DH is Luke and we live in Pittsfield (about 20 mi north of you), with our zero kids and zero pets.

I'm Jess and I live in Augusta with DH and 11 month old DD Taylor.  We have two dogs and a cat.

Definitely feel free to come to a GTG anytime!  We are lively, fun and supportive group!

  • There's so much to do in Maine!  once it gets warmer, it's fun to explore some of the coastal towns. Acadia National Park is a great spot, Portland of course too. There's beaches, light houses, lakes, hiking, restaurants, etc. What do you like to do? What did you used to do where you lived? Might help me figure out some more specific things to recommend for you, if I know what you like. :):)

I'm originally from NY and Dh is from VT. We've lived in Maine for 8 years now. We bought a house a year and a half ago up in Newport... 30 min North of Waterville (near grahamsm) with our puppy. I work in Augusta.

  • Hello,

My name is Melissa and I'm from the Waterville area(my mom still lives there), we live about 20min away now. I understand it can be hard to meet people in the area. It's really hit or miss. When I moved back there after college it was really hard to meet new people. There are some really great places to eat around there though!Wink Yes, in the summer there are a lot more things to do. I occasionally go on maine.gov in the summer to see if they have any fairs/festivals/etc on there. But I am sure you can learn a lot more on here on things to do, these ladies are fabulous!

  • Hi...welcome to Maine!  I'm Laura - DH and I live in Portland, but we just moved over the summer from NY, so I feel your pain.  I've been lucky to meet a few people here and there, but it's definitely hard making new friends...back in NY we had a large, tight-knit group, so it's a big adjustment.  I'm not really sure what is up in the Waterville area, but we've spent a ton of our free time just exploring our new city and the surrounding coastal towns.  During the summer, you should definitely be able to find more to do outside - the beauty of the Maine outdoors is one the biggest reasons we moved.

I'm sure these are obvious suggestions, but try joining some sort of group - exercise classes, knitting groups, book clubs, etc...there will always be someone else out there looking to meet new people.
