Vacuum Cleaners

DH and I are looking to replace our cheap, old, well-used vacuum (finally!). Does anyone have any recommendations for specific ones they love, or even specific brands? Just so you know know we mainly have carpet and I vacuum at least once a day, in case that makes a difference.

Thanks so much!

Re: Vacuum Cleaners

  • I would say it probably depends how much you want to spend.  You could get a decent middle of the line, or go all out and get top of the line.

We had a $99 cdn tire Dirt Devil and it died after 4 years.  So I did some research on what was best.  Around that time, I found a sale on Dyson so that's what I went with.  I vacuum 1-2 times a week because I am lazy, but we don't have a ton of carpet.  True to its claims, the Dyson never loses suction.  That being said, I am not sure if it really is any better than a cheaper model.  I do like it enough, but when I have to replace it, I am not sure if I would get another Dyson.

Perhaps, if there is a vacuum store near you, you could go in and get suggestions?  GL.

  • Dirt Devil and Shark vaccums suck (and not in a good way)!! We went with a Eureka, seems to work pretty well and we have an exclusive eureka repair shop up the street from us but we haven't had to bring it in yet and we've had it 2 years already.

  • Our house is mostly carpet too:-(

We have a Kirby G6 and it does a fantastic job.  The only cons are that it is really heavy( not great if you have a lot of stairs) and the cost $1500 - $2000(approx).

I've heard a lot of my friends rave about their Dyson's so I think that would be a good option too.

  • We just went through the search for a new vacuum. I did a ton of research and read consumer reports and product reviews. We vacuum alot (DH has allergies and we have 3 cats, plus our area is still under construction so there's lots of dust) so we wanted to get big bang for o ur buck.

Our house is roughed in for a central vac but neither of us are fans of them. Too much hose, etc. So we ruled that out.

I have had Bissels in the past and they are JUNK! Their customer service is awful, and even their replacement parts are crap. I ended up throwing our in the garbage, it wasn't worth the hassle.

We looked at Dysons but ther reviews are mixed and we kept seeing the same sorts of complaints/issues coming up again and again. So we ruled them out, too. For $600 I wanted to ake sure I had a machine that wasn't a crap shoot.

We ended up with a German made Sebo. It. Is. Amazing! Seriously. Best vacuum ever. It was a choice between the Sebo and the Miele (also a German brand). I blogged about it here. I would totally recommend it!

  • We got a Dyson as a wedding gift, and it is incredible!
