I volunteer in our church infant nursery one sunday a month. Today was my sunday to be in there. So we had several babies from about 4 -18 months, including Bella. Anyhow one little girl I didn't have much interaction with, so I didn't notice any spots. Until her mom came to pick her up and said let me check on your chicken pox, how are they looking? I stood there with what had to be the dumbest look on my face.
I realize chicken pox is just one of those kid things you can pick up anywhere, but I am also really angry that she has the nerve to expose my kid and those tiny babies and not even give the parents the option of keeping their kids away from it. Had the nursery director known, the child would not have been allowed in the room.
Am I wrong to be this annoyed that the mother of the other child is so rude and so disrespectful? I would keep my kid home until it was over, why spread crap around.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that it is contagious anymore if all the bumps have scabbed over, right? Could it be possible that the child had already scabbed so the mom was checking her scabs?
I agree that it's irresponsible to bring your child in such close contact with other children if they have an illness, especially if that contact is completely avoidable. I know that church is important, but skipping church is probably not a bad idea if your child is ill.

I just feel like why put all those babies in danger. Chicken pox isn't always simple and innocent, it can really be dangerous for some kids and this mother took my right to decide whether to expose my child or not.
That would piss me off! That would be like sending your kid to daycare with chicken pox, YOU CANT!
From what I've learned, chicken pox is most contagious during the first week or so of having it. After about two weeks, the lesions will scab over and there should be no more fluid coming through. At that point, the child is no longer considered contagious. However, the blisters come in "waves" and although the majority of the blisters had become scabs, there might have been some lesions that were still open. Children contract such things very easily so I definitely do not think that the mother made a wise decision in bringing the child to church and leaving it in your care with numerous other children. I would talk to whoever is head of the nursery and see if they could establish something to where children with chickenpox are not allowed back into the nursery until there are NO lesions or scabs at all. I definitely would have kept the child home until it was all gone completely.
Some people have no regard for other people....
I would be pissed. It's an infant room and infants can't even have the chicken pox vaccine until 12 months. Some parents would prefer their children to get the vaccine and not the pox themselves. She doesn't know if there are children in there with special needs that would have serious complications form having chicken pox early, or at all.
I don't think my daycare would let me bring Jacob in after being sick like that without a doctor's note saying he's not contagious.
I would be pissed, but, keep in mind... if she had just come in and looked at her daughter, but didn't say anything outloud, you wouldn't be aware of the issue at all...

This. I think it was wrong of her and she should have made it known whether it was contagious or not.
