Asking for Letter of Recommendation

I've been substitute in a school district for the past year.  I did my student teaching at this school too.  I want to ask the principal for a letter of recommendation but I don't want him to not call me to sub because he knows I'm looking at other schools to sub at.  He's a very intimidating person and I just don't know how to go about asking him. thanks.

Re: Asking for Letter of Recommendation

  • I'm a teacher now who's worked in several school districts for several years and I am currently substituting now after working full time for a few years.  You need to ask that principal!  You need to start building up some letters and this is the first one! They have to respect the fact that you are trying to get a job now.  If you are concerned, then just say that to him.  I honestly wouldn't worry, they know you are looking for a job and you didn't go to college and get a degree to NOT become a teacher.  My first teaching job, I used to come in late or take days off to interview! They can't keep you!  Good luck and be confident!
  • I agree.  You need to talk to the principal.  Any decent person would understand why you would want to sub at other schools and would not hold this against you.  If they do then that would be a sign that you don't want to work there.
