NER: Halloween Candy Q

My mom wants to only hand out made in the USA candy (specifically, she wants to avoid candy made in China). But she can't find any. Does anyone here know if there are any major candy companies that still make their product in the US?

Thanks.

  • Does Hershey not mfg everything right there in PA?
In case you're wondering where everyone went: http://pandce.proboards.com/index.cgi
  • Here's some links from Hershey's website:

    From the FAQ:

    A. Yes! Our history in the town goes back more than 100 years, and we are committed to continue making the world's best chocolate products in Hershey, Pennsylvania. In fact, the company operates - and will continue to operate - three factories in Hershey.

The Hershey Company is making changes to our global manufacturing network to ensure that our company remains competitive in the global marketplace for the long term. When these changes are completed, 90 percent of the items that Hershey sells in the United States and Canada will continue to be made in these countries.

And we will continue to make HERSHEY'S milk chocolate bars, HERSHEY'S KISSES milk chocolates and REESE'S Peanut Butter Cups as well as a wide range of other products in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

  • Good call. I just looked and it appears that Hershey's is now made in Mexico.

    Hmmm. Thanks for this.

  • All our candy is made in China? That's disappointing.

Maybe it's where you are.  Want me to run to the Hershey store in Times Square?  We're close to PA, so we might get Pennsylvania Hersheys candy...

You are sweet to offer! It's okay though. I think I have figured it out. I think that some Hershey's candy products are made in Mexico and some are still made in the USA.

  • I had no idea Hershey's chocolate is made in Mexico. That's disappointing.

The link doctor who posted indicates the Hershey's products that are still made in the US.

  • Is this because of the melamine?

  • I think they have a line of products made in and distributed in Mexico.  I didn't recognize the wrapper, and I'm a little too familiar with their products, if you know what I mean.  My aunt lives 30 minutes from the park, I've been going there forever.
