Moving in 4 months -- applications now?

H and I are relocating this July/August. I've been looking online for different jobs in the new area -- I found one last month that I really wanted but I knew it was too early to look further into it. Well the job was just posted again. My MIL thinks I should apply for it because you never know if they are casually looking, when they want to fulfil it, etc. H thinks it won't hurt to at least get my name out there.

I'm hesitant because the move is still 4 months away. We will be in the new area before that in which I would love to set up a meeting/interview with the company. I just don't know if its too soon. What do you think?

Re: Moving in 4 months -- applications now?

  • I agree with your MIL - you never know. Definitely apply.

I recently relocated to Chicago from Minneapolis and have been searching for about 3 months. The thing that has surprised me most is how long search and interview processes are taking. I had an interview with a company on December 30th, where I'm still in the running for the job and they're continuing to tell me they're very interested, but it simply hasn't been filled yet because their managers and HR dept are so busy. I've heard the same from countless colleagues. That a process for one company or one position could take 3-4 months or more from interview to acceptance.

    Good luck!

  • Definately apply. I'd start making cold calls now too. It will most likely take more than 4 months to find a new job.
