Re: how do you clean your microwave oven?

  • Normally I just squirt it down with vinegar and water and wipe it out. Take the turntable out and wash it in the sink.

After an explosion or if it's really dirty, I microwave a cup of water with a quarter cup of vinegar in a 2cup pyrex measuring cup. I cook it a couple minutes until it boils and then turn it off and let it sit a few more minutes so the vinegary steam helps loosen everything and then wipe it down.

  • I cut a lemon into wedges and squeeze the juice into a bowl of water (maybe 1-2 cups), then drop the pieces in as well. I nuke it on the hot water setting and let it sit in there for 5min afterwards, then wipe it down.

Then I pour the hot water and lemon wedges into the garbage disposal and let it run to clean/freshen that.

  • Hi,

I don't know if you know Mr muscle products. But if you or don't is not the matter, but you do get microwave oven cleaning spray that you can you use or as all the other ladies said the bowl water do wonders but I use a little baking soda and lemon juice in 1L water and cook it for about 15min-20 min. Let it set a little bit and wipe it out. Cleaning the plate in  soapy water. It will be nice and clean. Smelling new:)

    Have a ball cleaning it:)

  • Soak a rag in water, wring it just so it's not dripping madly, toss it in and turn it on for a short time.  I would def keep an eye out the first time you do this, in case your microwave is super-stronger than average. 30 secs is enough.

You've steamed the inside!  Now just use the rag to wipe it down.  BE CAREFUL - THE RAG IS SOAKED IN STEAMING WATER.  I usually use another dry rag on top, and drop the wet one (inside the microwave) as soon as I really feel the heat so I don't get scalded.  So just wipe, if you have a few spots that still aren't coming out, try again with steaming for another 30 sec.  If you keep concentrating on the stuck stuff, it will come off.

After the first steam, I usually (carefully) take out the rack and glass plate to clean in the sink and wipe down where those usually are.

I nuke my sponge that I do the dishes with for 2 minutes. (I had read a while back that it kills gross things on your sponge)- then I spray the inside of the microwave with a cleaner and wipe down with paper towels. Super easy since nuking the sponge has loosened everything stuck in the microwave.
  • Like other posters I usually heat a bowl of water and let it sit and steam to loosen any mess that may be in there and then I just wipe out.  I'm always really good at wiping off messes when they happen but my DH doesn't.  I never thought of throwing a lemon in there, that sounds like a great idea!

  • I put a mug of water with a squirt of lemon in it and nuke it for 5 minutes then let it sit for another 5 minutes so the steam will soften everything up. It wipes down really easy after that.

I do the same thing, except I use lemon and oranges.  Although, I don't squeeze the slices, I just put them into the water bowl, and let the essential oils in the water's steam do all of the work..let the water cool a bit, wipe it down, and dump the fruit in the GD..

  • I wipe down the inside with Clorox cleansing wipes
