How long will plants live in their plastic containers?

My mom came in town over the weekend while DH was gone. She generously bought us a bunch of plants for the yard, but was unable to help put anything in since she has had previous back surgeries. I overdid it putting in a bunch yesterday, and was stuck on the couch with a migraine today. I still have all the veggies to put in- how long do you think they can live? I have a super busy week this week and I'm worried about getting to them.

Re: How long will plants live in their plastic containers?

  • I'm no gardening/plant expert, so take my word as you will.  But as long as the plants are watered, they should be fine.  I bought some plants last year and then didn't put them in the ground or anything for several months and they are still alive.  I wouldn't know any different, actually! lol

  • Were they in pots though? Mine are in the tiny flimsy plastic packs.
  • Id keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent them from getting too hot. And check them daily to make sure they stay moist. They should be fine for a week.

Think of where they were at in the place where they were purchased. At home depot the smaller containers are typically kept in more shaded areas regardless if they are full sun, to help keep them from being dried out too quickly.

  • They were in the small round black pots.  Not the super small ones but not very big either.

  • If you keep them watered they will be fine. The little containers they are in now are the ones they were grown in at the greenhouse.
