Dam to Dam

Thinking about running the Dam to Dam (20k) for the first time.  I've run 5ks before, but never anything longer.  Do I dare try it?  Am I too late to start training for this year?  Any advice from veterans?  Anyone in the Waukee area want to be a running buddy?

  • You should do it! Its a lot of fun! I have run it twice and the first time had never done anything longer than a 5K when I started training. I was really intimidated but it went just fine. :) I am toying around with the idea of doing it again this year but need to get my buns in gear if that is going to happen! I have my 6 week checkup tomorrow to get cleared to exercise so I guess I need to hurry up and decide. When my husband and I train for it we follow a 12 week training schedule by Hal Higdon and it is really manageable. Good luck!

  • I also followed the Hal Higdon program when I was training for my first half marathon this past January.  I was a very new runner (I still am...I started last June) and it worked great for me.  The most important thing is doing a long run on the weekends.  If you start now, you should have plenty of time to train by then.

I might be running it...I'm a little undecided as of yet, but it sounds like a fun race!
