Do you talk to your parents on the phone. My mom (like clockwork) calls me every Sunday. She also kinda expects to see me & DH at least once a month. Don't get me wrong -- I love my mom, but sometimes I don't need to talk to her once a week. I feel bad, I think she has serious "empty nest syndrome". MIL & FIL don't really call us often, only if they need to talk about something/make plans, etc. What is your calling schedule with your parents & in-laws these days?
Re: How often...
I hardly talk to my parents at all on the phone BUT we live 5 miles away and visit every weekend and get laundry done since we don't have a washer/dryer. When I was away at school, I would call maybe every other week or so, depending on whether I had anything interesting to talk about.
I never talk to my MIL on the phone and DH calls her once in a blue moon. He has to remind her that phones work both ways and she doesn't have to wait for him to call; she's more than capable of picking up a phone herself.
Do the creep.
I am the same. I call my mom every day on the way to work, she drives back from her morning errand and I walk to the office from the bus station. We kinda got used to these calls. My dad usually calls me when he drives somewhere too. Similarly, on the weekeds I call them at least one, and we see each other every Sunday (with very few exceptions) for a family dinner.
MIL usually calls DH first, but he never picks up, and she learned that I normally have no time during the workweek. So we established Saturday evenings for calls with her and FIL. She calls us, we put them on speaker phone, and chat for an hour or so. They live in GA, and we live in NY, so we barely see them.

I don't call my mom as often as I should. I know she'd like it if I called more. But to be fair, she never calls me either. :P
We don't talk to Darren's parents very often either, although he's better about calling them that I am about calling mine. He talked to his dad last week, which is more than I can say for myself! I can't help it, I just don't like calling people. Even my closes friends. Fortunately, both my parents are on Facebook which I think helps.

I usually talk to my parents about once a fortnight, more when there is exciting stuff going on. When I first moved here my Father and I spoke daily. I really noticed when the calls dropped down to once a week, like he used to not talking to me, which is a bit sad. I talk to my sister on the phone about once every three weeks.
DH will talks to my family if he answers when they call. He has long converstations with both my parents. I have to wrestle the phone off him when he's talking to my Father, then when I get a turn, Dad is all talked out!!
His parents call and talk to him on his cellphone about once a week. They don't generally call the home phone unless they can't get a hold of him, and never chat to me.
A tradition started when I moved away for college that I'd call my parents at 11am every Sunday to chat. When Mom got sick I'd call her a lot more often during the week just to chat, because she was home alone while Dad worked. It's been funny (well not funny but you know) that some of the roughest times for me since she passed away have been when I wanted to call her in the afternoon on some random day of the week, and haven't been able to. I still call Dad at 11 on Sundays, and this week for the first time we chatted after he got home from work on Wednesday and Thursday (due to my b-day and getting my present).
MIL calls DH on average of once every three days. Some days they talk for 30 seconds, other times it's like 40 minutes. Sometimes she calls 3 times in one day. I guess it's because I have a routine with mine that it's odd/irritating at times that she'll call so randomly.
