Where is everyone?!? Its Monday....

How was everyone's weekend? Ours was ok till last night when water started seeping into our basement because of the heavy rains and the wet ground. Thankfully it slowed by about midnight and DH could go to sleep and stop mopping up the mess.

  • Yikes Laurie! The joys of homeownership right?

Our weekend was amazing and definitely went way too fast. We had our 1st Annual (yes this will be an annual event) Mardi Gras party which was sooooo so so much fun. Pics on facebook for those who are friends with me :) Yesterday we had to spend a very hungover day cleaning the house from the party, then went out for wings to celebrate a successful event.

Today came way too quick but my parents will be here Thursday so I'm hoping the week flies by!

    The fun never ends!!

  • I'm here today.  I'm so very tired, so I need something/someone to keep me awake and entertained.

Hopefully, DH and I can start to get into our routine this week so things start to calm down some.

    Anniversary

  • I'm here also! Had a pretty low key weekend, but was still a good one nontheless! But I have to admit, I'm getting beach fever...counting down til our week at the beach for our Anni!!

  • My weekend was okay, but I have a long rant.

Every year my town has a huge St. Patrick's Day parade/event which was on Saturday (they have it early so they don't compete with NYC and other local parades). About 50,000 people come into town that day (and the whole population of the town is only around 50,000), the bars all open at 9 am and have lines blocks long all day, and there are house parties in nearly every building. Basically there are just packs of drunk people wearing green shirts wandering around town all day. The rule of thumb when you live there is... you either participate, or you leave town. I have participated a bunch of years but it got pretty old so now I leave town.

On Saturday DH had to drive to Long Island for his fantasy baseball draft, so I got together with one of my friends to see a movie, get something to eat, and do a little shopping. We just wanted to get out of town. After swerving to avoid the numerous drunk people walking down the middle of the street instead of the sidewalks, when I got home around 6:30 PM I discovered that someone in my apt. building had a huge party.  There were ~20 people hanging out in the lobby, which was completely trashed - plastic cups and beer cans covering the floor, trash piled in the corner. spilled beer everywhere.  Went to take the stairs - the door to the stairway is sealed shut (and, it doesn't have a lock!).  The garage door was stuck open and the door from the garage to the building was propped open, so anyone from the street could wander into our building.

Took the elevator - it was trashed too.  I saw all the party goers were taking the elevator up and down from the 6th floor, so I went up there to investigate. The entire hallway was lined with trash, but it was easy to figure out what apartment was having the party.

Obviously I was fuming. We live in an upscale apartment building and pay a lot in rent. Our building population is a little older than others in the area because of the higher than average rent, and there are several families with small children who live there.  Treating the building like a frat house is ridiculous.

I called DH to get the landlord's phone number but he was driving and didn't pick up the phone. I was about to call the police. Went back to the lobby to take pictures to find the maintenance guys had arrived, kicked everyone out of the lobby and were starting to clean up (I guess someone else called them). I told them about the 6th floor and the apartment number. DH is also going to call the landlord today to complain. The maintenance guys said they were going to fine them and charge them the clean-up costs, but I think they should try to evict them.

And, when DH got home, there were two bikes (an adult and child's bike) in our parking spot. We're guessing that they belong to someone in the building and the drunk party goers were messing around with them. I'm just thankful our car was not there all day.

I think it's time to move.

  • I'm here...don't feel like working though.  I just want to be with my kitty!

@Lori:  How horrible!  I really hope your "neighbors" get evicted.  That's absurd!

@Stacy:  Ahh a beach does sound nice!  Especially since we are still buried in snow and we are supposed to be getting even more :(

  • Lori - I totally understand your frustration!!! I couldn't even begin to imagine coming home to that - and I'm with you - the neighbors in questions should be kicked out. They and/or their guests jeopardized the safety of other residents by propping open doors, etc.

There are just certain things that should not have to be tolerated - be sure the landlord gives 'em hell!

Mel: I can't believe more snow is still falling! I think we are done for the year on the Atlantic Coast...usually, what we don't get by March, we don't get. Hopefully that holds true for this year as well :-)

UGH Hoboken right? I know friends who go/live there. That really stinks and it sounds like that HAD to be breaking some sort of terms of their lease. Thats the worst and I'm sorry you had to deal with that!

Sounds awful Lori!  I think it's time for them to move!

  • a little late to the party. DH and I defintiely stayed low key this past weekend after a week in San Fran. The only thing I really did all weekend is go to a friends house for a "bake date" we made croissants and hot cocoa and pop tarts. And then played bananagrams for like 3 hours. It was great!
  • I'm late too, becuz I was slammed yesterday!  Weekend was ok - pretty laid back.  We had dinner over BIL/SIL house Saturday and visited with them for awhile.  Amanda had fun hanging with her cousin.  Sunday was dinner over my mom's house - very different without dad there, but we still managed to get through it.  My cousin joined us as well and she's having my mom over for dinner tonight.
