Food Saver/Vacuum Seal System

Anyone care to recommend yours? I know a few of you use them to freeze food.

Re: Food Saver/Vacuum Seal System

  • I have a Food Saver.  Works great.

  • Food Saver brand.  I got mine like 7 years ago and it is still going strong.  I love that thing!  You can get a huge box of bags (rolls, so you make your own size) for like $35 at Sam's Club.  You can also get a Food Saver at Sam's Club for around $130, and it comes with tons of extras...where you would pay that price at BBB for just the machine.

  • Oh I didn't even realize "Food Saver" was the actual brand name. LOL Thanks for the info.

If I seal something and open it up, can I re-seal it again?

The only way to open a bag is to cut off the top where it's sealed.  If there is enough plastic left after that, you could reseal it.  I mostly vacuum seal meats to freeze them, so I don't reseal or reuse the bags.

Also, I've sometimes seen Food Savers for a great price at Mardens.

  • food saver, here, too! We like it a lot and generally use BBB coupons to get the accessories.  I'll have to check sam's to see if they have them - I didn't even think of it!

  • I also "use" the Food Saver system...although, I could probably count the number of times I've used it (hence the quotes)...in fact, I don't know that I even unpacked it when we moved...I do hope to use it more in the future, though...it's a great thing to have, if you have an accessible place to store it

  • I have a cheap Food Saver that I got for $25 including shipping from Woot! a couple months ago. It has not special features and is very, very basic. But it gets the job done. I may invest in a fancier one once I kill this one and I can prove to my DH that it is worth it.

You can buy resealable bags, but they can only be used by the fancy machines.
