I need things to do in NYC :)
We're flying to NYC on Friday for DH's best friends wedding. The
wedding is at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Times Square, so we're staying
there. As of now, the only thing we have planned (besides the wedding)
is the RD, which is at a restaurant called Osso Buco.
So, we have a few hours on Friday to wander.. then breakfast Saturday..
then DH has to be ready early for pictures so I'll be on my own most of
Saturday afternoon.. then all day Sunday. We're flying home Monday
around 11.
What should we do? DH has been several times, but he doesn't really
care what we do as long as he gets yummy food to eat. I'm kind of
hesitant to go out by myself on Saturday afternoon.. that is silly
though, right? What should we definitely see.. and what are some good
ideas for me to do on my own?
I'm getting excited!
Re: I need things to do in NYC :)
Not sure what you like or are into so I'll throw out a bunch of ideas you can research and follow up on:
- Statue of Liberty
- The Met and Central Park
- shopping on Canal Street/Little Italy
- WTC site
- Walk the brooklyn bridge
- Sex and the City bus tour
- St. Patrick's Cathedral/Rockefeller Center
- Empire State Building
- go see a show on Broadway or off Broadway
Honestly, I think you'll be fine walking around NYC on a Saturday afternoon by yourself.
Are there any museums you'd like to see? Central Park? St Patricks Cathedral? NY Public Library? Shopping? I wish I'd had more time to just wander Saks & Barney's but DH is the world's biggest PITA to shop with.
When we went in September, we pretty much just walked around a lot & went into places that we thought were interesting.
We went to Grimaldi's Pizza in Brooklyn. It was the best pizza I've ever eaten. The restaurant is right under the Brooklyn Bridge, it's a cool place to eat.
We did this food tour when we went a few years ago. It was a lot of fun. and I fell in love with Grennwich Village

I could spend an afternoon walking around Central Park or even people watching in Bryant Park.
We also walked across the Brookyn Bridge and ate pizza at Grimaldi's.
You'll have fun! I think the Crown Plaza is where I stayed when I went to NYC last June. I enjoyed going to the top of the Empire State Building. I had been to NY a couple times before and never had a chance to do that, so I made it a point last time I was there.
I also enjoyed walking around Macy's. The wooden escalators are too cool. Taking the ferry to Staten Island is fun. You should be able to get a good view of the Statue of Liberty. Maybe you can visit the Central Park Zoo, or Ground Zero.
You shouldn't have a problem walking around by yourself. Just make sure you wear sneakers.
How is it that my BABY is going to be 3?

You shouldn't have any problems walking around by yourself. I was there a few years ago with friends- they had something to do one day, so I was on my own. I recommend getting a day pass for the Bus tour (I think it was called Apple city , or Gray lines) They are double decker buses, that go all over the city. You can hop on and off whenever you want.... They give a narrated tour of the city, and point out all the highlights. I rode the bus around for whole loop, to see/hear everything, then got off at a few places to see things on my own (Macy's, Empire State Bldng, etc). The tour of Rockefeller Center is really cool....
Have fun!!
