Shower Cleaning Product Rave -- stolen from C/O Board

Sooo... this morning, on the Cleaning and Organizing board, someone posted a product recommendation for an "effortless" shower/tub/tile cleaner.

I asked DH to buy some tonight at Home Depot.

I'm in love with this product.

It's called ZEP ("commercial grade") and is a spray bottle. It's called something like Shower Tub and Tile spray or something like that.

Spray it on the tub/ tile/ shower door.  Let stand for 2 minutes. Wipe off with wet sponge.  Rinse thoroughly with water. (you do not want to let it dry or stay on too long, or it will streak).

Africkenmazing.

My tub is potentially 90 years old porcelain, and is constantly pocked with dirt and soapscum. There's almost no protective surface on it anymore, so all cleaning needs to be serious Magic Eraser scrubbing, and I have to do a full elbow grease scrub, using a full Eraser pad, probably every 10 days or so.

This was about 10 minutes, including waiting time.  I did it in sections, not knowing how long it would take to wipe down well. Next time, I'll do larger sections and move more quickly.

If you struggle with soap scum or difficult to clean bathrooms, do yourserlf a favor and pick up a bottle of this.

Re: Shower Cleaning Product Rave -- stolen from C/O Board

  • I will go there this week and buy some!  My tub is a disaster from the previous owners.  We installed a water softener and it's helped some and I've been able to get some of the grime off, but it's awful!  I'm constantly searching for something to help it.  Thank you!

  • Sounds like a great challenge -- definitely report back on how it did!

It's got a strong odor for a cleaning product, but it actually didn't bother me.  If you've got a sensitive nose, make sure you've got a window open or the exhaust on.

  • Noted!  I'm itching to try it now.  And my bathroom is due for a scrub again.

  • Yes, I will be buying this.  I HATE cleaning the shower.

  • If we weren't about to tear out our nasty almond colored shower I would be all over this.  It has a funky water streak stain from the way the water flows that no amount of anything has gotten it totally off.
  • I'm a fan of the Zep product line. One of Drew's college buddies used to be a rep for them and gave us a ton of stuff. It all worked great.
