AHHHH!!!!!! My computer just ate a long message!!!!!!!!!!!
Long story short. I tried to contest a charge over a misrepresented product I bought in a moment of insanity from a door to door salesman. I tried to return it but got the run around. Our bank has requested a ton of documentation that we just don't have. The bank says that the receipt from the merchant is too vague, they want a better receipt that clearly states what I was buying. I don't have one and can't see the company that wont refund my money providing me with a better receipt. Plus they want a letter from a neutral third party stating that the item is not as represented on the non-existant detailed receipt. So, I am screwed. I have been telling DH that his bank sucks for years, this is the first time we have ever tried to contest a charge, but there have been other things. Is this common when trying to contest a charge? I don't know if it matters but the amount was $250, and we have never even carried a balance from one month to the next let alone had a late payment, and we have 800+ credit scores.
Re: Have you even contested a credit card charge?
I may be completely crazy, but didnt you post a month or so ago about buying steaks from a door to door salesperson? Is this the charge you are contesting? Did you end up returning the steaks? Did you eat them?
I vaguely remember this too. If so, proving that meat was misrepresented is difficult I would think.
Yeah, it was the meat. The guy refered to Omaha Steaks at least a half dozen times, he took the meat out of the box to show me a few steaks but I wasn't able to see the labels. He even carried the unmarked OUTER box in for me. I didn't see the actual packaging until the left and it was NOT Omaha. I cooked one of the steaks and it was really crappy meat. The have 30 day money back guarenty, but they made it nearly impossible for me to return it in 30 days. The steaks are still in my freezer (minus one) I was actually hoping that once they got word that the credit card was getting contested they would finally show up at the door for their meat. But no such luck. I will live with it. I have no way to prove a word he told me and really have no receipt proving what I purchased. It doesn't have their logo, a product name or anything on it. This company knows what they are doing in the scamming department.
As a side, my town has a law requiring door to door salesman to have a permit. When I called the town to find out if they had a permit, they said this company didn't. I tried to file a complaint about them selling without a permit, or get a letter from the town stating that the company did not have the required permit but the town said they couldn't give me anything and could offer me no more information on the matter. And this is what pis$ed me off the most! That the town has a LAW that not only do they not enforce, but cannot even comment on. I seriously don't understand why they couldn't provide me with a statement saying something like "As of such-n-such day, Prime Time Foods, LLC does not have a permit to sell door to door in this town."
Where is Prime Time Foods based out of? Could you try a small claims court suit?
How did they make it difficult to return the steaks? How long did you wait to contest the charges?
They are in Endicott, outside of Binghamton. I am not going to go for a two hour drive, each way. Most likely get lost because I don't know the area at all. To return them when they sold them to me in my drive way. I called the company three times and left 2 messages, which were never returned, over a week passed bofore finally getting someone on the phone. The guy gave me a HUGE attitude about how they sell cases and cases of this stuff and only the people who buy small quantities complain. After he wanted my to take them to their store, I told him no. He said the salesman who sold them to me would be in contact. Of course, I had no idea what the guys' name was and they have no record of sales. We finally figured out who it most likely was. A couple days more passed before someone called me. They left a message, and I tried calling back 3-4 times without a return call. I tried the office and still no response. I gave up, tried to get th credit card company to remove the charges, thinking they would finally show up at my door step for their meat. But still nothing. It isn't worth small claims court, we'll just start eating the meat. Just a major annoyance.
