Hey ladies. I am from the Baltimore Board but wanted to ask you ladies for recs.
DH and I are trying to plan a few nights away and were thinking about going to Gettysburg. We like the historical, touristy, antique-y and even some ghost-type things. Especially when we can take pictures along the way.
Do any of you ladies have any recommendations for places to stay, eat, visit, etc? Thanks!
Re: Gettysburg recs, please.
I love Gettysburg but have never stayed over. Hopefully Meghan will see this post. I know she's stayed quite a few times.
As far as things to do, I would recommend these things.
Historic Farnsworth House Candlelight Ghost Walks - www.farnsworthhouseinn.com
Jennie Wade House - www.jennie-wade-house.com
My husband loved the Lincoln Train Museum - www.gettysburgbattlefieldtours.com
Dobbin House Tavern / Springhouse Tavern - www.dobbinhouse.com
Have fun and enjoy your trip!
Hi there!
Tara's right, DH and I usually go and stay a weekend in Gettysburg at least once a year. We've stayed mostly at the Cashtown Inn. We love it! It's outside of Gettyburg, but we love that--it's so quiet. It has quite the history too and was featured on Ghost Hunters on SciFi in fact! Jack and Maria (the owners) are wonderful and very friendly. It's located near some of the wineries too.
I recommend everything Tara listed too, we usually eat at the Dobbin House at least once and also Gettysburg Eddie's. You can also take a bus or car tour at the visitor's center. It's fun just to walk around Gettysburg in town, there are a ton of shops and things to see.
We're headed back this year in September in fact! :-) Have a wonderful time!
We went this past summer and are going again. Loved it!
We did a little tour guide tour our first day which starts at the big hotel in the center of town and then spent time at the visitor's center-the BIG one-and did the tours/diorama/etc there... We did get to see some of the special talks the rangers do-they're pretty good! It was nice getting an idea of what happened before going to the big center.
We also did an audio tour-I think it was the $25 or around that range. Did not feel it was a waste of time-truly, we don't.
We did the Jenny Wade house-semi cheesy-was on Ghost Adventures? the one with Zak. Some of the other ones that are combined with the Jenny Wade house seem really cheesy-so we did not do those.
We did a pic at The Victorian place-fun stuff as well as did Ghost Hunt (well, some of us did) and Ghost 'Tour'-- We did Gettysburg Ghost Tours. There are others out there, but we picked this one and liked it. Super interesting history!
FYI-before going to any buffets... make sure there aren't any groups of boy scouts, etc! They get crazy with those lovely tour groups...
We live in Gettysburg and here are a few our of our favorite spots !! Also check out my website www.scpamoms.org we always have local coupons etc...
