What home remedies do you or your family use?
I have a patient right now who has a leg abscess. He said the infectious disease dr told him to put some ointment on his wound.
He said he's been putting it on there for weeks and its not getting better. He finally stopped the ointment and started putting honey on it and it's looke 200x better than it has in months.
He has me cracking up laughing. Patient's like him are what make me love my job even more. He makes up for the loonies that I deal with.
Any good home remedies I should know about?
Re: Home Remedies
I've heard of the salt water gurggle for a soar throat but I can never bring myself to do it because it makes me gag.
Aloe, from a plant not a bottle, for burns, cuts and scrapes.
I've tried earwax to get rid of a cold sore. It doesn't work, at least not for me.
My friend swears by witch hazel to help bruises go away.
I won't lie, I've used DD butt paste on a rash on my hand and it worked.
Dry itchy skin, I will use some vaseline and it makes it better.
I also use vaseline on dry cracked lips. It works better than any chapstick.
ROFL.
I also thought WTF when I read that. I don't get it. I don't even want to know the details honestly. I may google later.. When I'm at home.

DETAILS! My face is breaking out like a 10yr old boy. It's disgusting. I can't find anything to clear it up even a little bit. It doesn't matter what time of the month it is, it's horrible.
Listerine will do the same thing (alcohol based).
Toothpaste works wonders too. I will generally do the honey or toothpaste before bed and put a bandaid on the really bad ones. Honestly Honey is a miracle to killing bacteria.

I have tried the toothpaste before. that shiz burns.
A bandaid? You put toothpaste then a band aid over it? I just bought new face wash today. I was using neutrogena and it did nothing.
Now I bought some clean & clear (i think). I can't remember and I'm to lazy to get off the couch.

Way back when, when I use to be a serious runner my face broke out BAD. For like a year and it sucked. I have never in my life had acne except for that time period. Once I scaled back on my running, the acne went away. I tried everything under the sun to clear my skin up but nothing worked
I hope you have better luck than I did and running is not the culprit for you!

I use witch hazel twice a day (morning and night) after I wash my face. I have oily skin and large pores and I haven't had a breakout since I started using it again.
I use Vaseline on my lips and cuticles every night to keep them soft.
Salt water gargles also help for mouth sores, such as canker sores, better than any over the counter stuff.
When I have a cold I love to make a hot toddy with tea, honey, lemon and bourbon or whiskey. If the tea, honey, and lemon don't make you feel better the alcohol will!
When I sometimes get indigestion I mix baking soda and water per the box directions.
