Re: Hair cut: yay or nay?

  • my personal opinion is you shouldn't drastically change your hair while pregnant or in the first couple months after having baby. you might not find time after baby is born to style your hair, and keeping it long enough for a ponytail is a must. Smile

i know there are lots of moms out there who somehow manage to look amazing and have their hair looking fantastic all the time, but i am definitely not one of those. i can barely manage a shower most days. Stick out tongue

but, yes i do think it'd look really cute on you!

    Or right before an interview!

Don't do it.  If you're itching for a change, WAIT.  Get through the interview first ;)  .

But I agree with MrsTice - you could pull that cut off!  Cuteness!

  • it's a cute style, but i think it would be higher maintenance than you anticipate. to get the "piece-y" looking ends, you would have to use a waxy paste, flat iron, etc. also, when it grows out even a little it will start to flip out on it's own, creating more work for you.

i also agree that you don't want to make drastic changes right before an interview.

  • Yea, high maintenance isn't my thing at all so good point nataloo! Should I just get a trim tonight then? It needs something to breath a little life into it. (It's seriously been a year since I've stepped into a salon...)
  • i would get a trim...and if you can afford it and get in to a salon, i would go somewhere that it's not just a quick in and out place so they can show you how to style your hair with whatever they do to it...example - anytime i get my hair cut (even if it's not a big change), my stylist will take the time to walk me through the best way to style it...whether it's using a flat iron, curling iron, or just a blow dryer.

i still don't achieve the salon look, but it's much closer than i used to get.

ETA: not to imply you CAN'T afford it. just meant that salons can get pricey and i know you have mentioned watching your finances.

  • Up here, I just go to Great Clips or Cost Cutters because it's just up the street from work. I've never paid in my hometown (at a "real" salon) because my mom just picks it up for me so I have no clue what a haircut should even cost!

Any suggestions for Ankeny or near Merle Hay? I won't get off work (in Ankeny) until at least 4.

  • No offense taken nataloo! I know that I've mentioned finances on here more than once, so I'd just think you have a steel-trap memory! Wink
  • I like Tera at Shear Style in Ankeny - it's on NW 9th, near the high school. 964-1388

that's the girl i'm always raving about. not sure what her schedule is like, but she is just off of NE 14th. i think you can take that "back" road from your work straight through to 14th in a couple of minutes. her salon space is in the same building as the  molly maids.

  • Thanks ladies! I'll give them a call when I get a chance!
  • I drastically cut my hair when I was pregnant last time around and I knew I didn't want to do that again but I needed something a little different so last week I got my hair trimmed up and highlighted at the Aveda Institute. I had a really good experience this time and I got a trim, highlights, and a manicure for $60. It is a little blonder than I normally go, but I figured it was a nice pick me up during this pregnancy. Good luck! :o
