24 hour shift

H is off on his first 24 hour shift at the hospital and he delivered his first baby today!  I'm so proud of him and all he's accomplished so far.

I didn't want to post this on FB for a few reasons, hope you don't mind me sharing!

The strange thing is he thought he would hate his ob/gyn rotation because he didn't want to look at "nasty cooter" all day - his words not mine, lol - but he's only one week into this rotation and he loves it so much he's considering actually BEING an ob/gyn instead of a surgeon.  Whoa!  IDK why but I've had a hunch since he started med school that he'd end up wanting to do ob/gyn.

    That's awesome!

And I wouldn't want to poke around in poon all day, either - I think the baby delivering must be what keeps OB/GYNs going!

I hate to say it, but I think it all depends on the area you're practicing in.  During his family med he was in a not as wealthy area IYKWIM and the female patients didn't take care of their business, but this rotation he's been in a wealthier area and they're a lot cleaner.

I am simultaneously grossed out and in awe of this statistic! I mean, it makes sense...but I'm hahaha-ing and ewww-ing all the same. Awesome.

  • Wow. Makes sense, though! Haha...."Poon".
  • wow I'm late to this, and that was an entertaining yet gross read lol. I always think of the episode of 'Friends' where Carol is having the baby and they're all at the hospital and Rachael is flirting with the OB/GYN and he says that he's not in a relationship because of the line of work that he's in, and she asks why and his reply is along the lines of 'well, as a waitress, do you ever come home and think to yourself 'if I see one more cup of coffee...'

  • That's awesome!  And wow to everything...but I guess that makes sense in a weird way lol
