I would LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a sling made by you. I am a sewing idiot (I can never get the bobbin in right).

Can we work something out?

Re: **Erika**

  • Yes, of course!  And to tell you the truth, the bobbin is right up there with worst things about sewing!  I am not much beyond idiot myself, but I can do the basic straight lines and curves involved here. Plus I have no fear, so I regularly dive in over my head and sometimes come out successful.

I saw your FB status this morning.  Reminds me of my grandmother. She was amazing- she made clothes for everyone in the family- even my Barbie doll.  She also was an incredible embroiderer.  She has works in a local museum in Colorado.  Even my mom has used patterns to make some clothes- I'm at a loss if the fabric is at all fancy or I'm required to use something other than a straight stitch with normal thread at automatic  tension!

So you'll first need to find the fabric- that's the fun part.  You can do one wide (45"+) piece of fabric that will make one sling with the same fabric all around.  Or 2 fabrics that will make a reversible sling- and has enough fabric to make 2.  You'll need 2 yards of each fabric- so whether you buy a total of 2 yards of one or 4 yards of 2 doesn't much matter.  Then some matching/ coordinating all purpose thread.  Once you've got it, we can talk measurements and getting it all to me!

(There are some super cute punk fabrics out there- I almost made a style like that for James!)

  • The nearest JoAnns is in Waterville. Do you know if WalMart still carries fabric? I hate hate hate going there but I don't want to drive to Waterville!

  • I think some of them do?  The one near me used to, but when I had gone a year or so ago, that section has been replaced by an in house Subway or something like that!

You could always buy online at JoAnn or Fabrics.com and have it shipped directly to me.  It's a little hard to get the matching right, but you could probably do it.

Or we could make an afternoon visit of it and you can come on down to Portland for a field trip to JoAnn's here and then you can hang around my house for an hour or two while I whip it up for you- Abe welcome, of course.

  • The Wal-Mart in Augusta still carries fabric.

There is a Jo-Anne's in Auburn over near TJ Maxx.

  • A note about ordering from JoAnn's online - I did it once and ordered a couple of types of nylon and fabric when they were having an online only sale.  The cuts of fabric I got were awesome - they were twice the width of the bolts in the store so I got twice the amount of fabric I was expecting.  I don't know if it is always this way but it was a pleasant surprise!

And spoonflower is awesome even if a little pricey.  MM - Glad I could suck some other people in.  ;-)
