I need new jeans. Bad. The pair I have make me look like my bum is sagging to the ground. Unfortunately, I live in a fairly small town with limited choices. All I seem to find are skinny jeans. I caved and tried a pair on...they weren't that bad. I bought them, but am still deciding if I'm going to keep them.
1. I'm 29. I feel like I'm too old to wear them.
2. I'm not skinny by any means. I've lost some weight, but I'm still around 30 lbs overweight.
I know you ladies will be honest. Am I too old? Are they only meant for thin women? My fashion sense has always been lacking, but now that I have Emmett it's pretty much gone out the window.
Re: Fashion advice: Skinny jeans
Skinny jeans are no longer considered a trend, they are now considered a classic siloheutte (sp... butchered that)
Criteria to help make someone not look ridiculous, make sure they aren't too low cut (this will scream that you are wearing teenager jeans that are clearly not cut for women)... Also make sure they aren't completely painted on looking, unless they are jeggings (in which if they are jeggings, make sure you bum - and more importantly lady bits are always covered by a top.... no one wants to see camel toe)....
I think women with curves usually look better in skinnies that are more straight leg then 'skinny', which will sometimes accent the difference in size between hips/thighs and calves/ankles. That said, I consider a "straight leg" skinny jean a jean that isn't tight around your ankles...
Also FWIW, flare jeans are completely on trend for spring/summer '11... if you are looking for a more 'fashion fwd' jean, you could go with those...

I'm 29 and wear skinny jeans so I definitely don't think you're too old
I even got myself a pair of maternity skinny(ish) jeans from Old Navy.
That being said, I stay away from the super tight or tapered stuff and stick to the "straight leg" versions. My pre-mat ones were from The Gap.
That is not to say that I've necessarily mastered the art of wearing skinny jeans. But for me, they work best with longer tops, and of course I wear them on days when there is snow on the ground and I want to tuck them into my boots.

My mom wears skinny jeans, and they look great on her, and she's in her 50s, so I don't think it's an age thing.
Like Beth said, I'll never wear them though. They don't look so good on me and just aren't my style.
Thanks all for your advice.
I think I'm going to take them back. I feel better about not being too old, but I figure if I'm debating it this much that means I'll probably be too self conscious to wear them often.
This exactly. I hope PP is right and flare jeans come back soon. I hate going shopping for jeans since skinny jeans are all that I am available to find to.
You should be able to find them at general retailers now, GAP, Express, Old Navy, etc.....
