Hi ladies!
sorry I've been MIA I've been back to work for about 2 weeks - I've been lurking though. So we have a nanny watching Mckenzie here at the house since I work from home.
She is a great sleeper in our bed and in her swing. However, she will nap for an hour or so in her crib but for whatever reason won't nap long in her pack-n-play, maybe 5 minutes. She is bedsharing with us at night and pretty much sleeps through the night. At her 2 month appt the doctor said that was fine especially since were all sleeping well. I'm going out of town next week and family will be watching her while I'm at work, and she won't have a swing to nap in. So needless to say I'm feeling a bit panicked in preparation of her being watched when she will not have a swing to nap in, and will be napping in a pack-n-play.
Can you give any suggestions on how you got your LO to sleep in their pack-n-play. She has her 4 month appt later this month and I assume the doctor will suggest we work on getting her transitioned into her bed. I know it won't happen overnight which is why we are trying to get her to nap in the pack-in-play. Earlier she was laying in there and was obviously over-tired that she cried. The nanny picked her up and she was out in about 2 minutes. Most the time she just lays there and is kicking her legs and moving her arm, and 'talking,' doesn't fall asleep. We've tried various increments of time, 10, 15, 20 mins of her laying in there.
I've tried wrapping the pack-n-play mattress with a soft blanket so it's warmer, I've tried using a heating pad on the blanket for a few minutes before putting her in so the blanket is warm when she lays down.
I'm willing to take all suggestions and ideas! Thanks ladies!
I hope everyone is doing well ![]()
Re: Moms help!
bennett did great in his pack n play up until just now (he's 20 months). we used it at my moms whenver he stayed over.
do you swaddle? maybe try that. we swaddled bennett from the start and he never had an issue sleeping anywhere...and i think that's part of the reason. he felt "secure".
what about a noise/sound machine that might coax the baby to sleep?
good luck!
We used to swaddle, she hates her hands swaddled so we'd swaddle her with her hands out and she'd bust out of it. We used the swaddle ones with velcro - I will try the swaddle again. We don't use it at night since she goes to sleep no problem.
Oh yes, we've got the sound machine on when we put her in there too!
I find a lot of it has to do with them in control and if she doesn't care too much for the pnp and she knows someone will pick her up to be in her desired comfort level she's going to fight it.
We're going through this very issue at night right now. She used to sleep 6-7 hours wake to eat and then back down until about 6-6:30 and now she sleeps maybe 3 hours in her crib then up and will only sleep in her crib about 30 minutes until she's crying and I have to rock her back and the same cycle. She does better co-sleeping but even still wakes up a few times a night however I think it's the 4 month wakely per the pediatrician she said that's common.
Ava hates being swaddled now too so I completely understand. Before I went back to work she'd only nap if I were holding her because I spoiled her into that way. Once she went to daycare she'll now nap in a rocker, a bouncy, or her crib. (We still can't get her to nap in her crib). I think it's different folks who can do different things sometimes. It might take some adjusting for her the first 2 days but she'll get used to whatever whoever is watching her does in order to make it work.
Ava didn't care to nap really in her pnp but then again like I said she didn't like napping other than with me but she did ok at night...that mattress is actually softer than her cribs so I think she liked that.
Try the white noise machine...didn't work for her much but I'm bringing it back to hopefully help.
Thanks Cole for the suggestions & everyone else too.
I know its a work in progress
