Has anyone done this, or know anything about it? I keep reading online that is has always been a scam, that the hair never goes to people who need it, instead they sell it overseas to make money.
I would like to do this, if it's the real thing...and how many inches do you need to donate- 10" ?
Re: Locks of love?
I don't know about it being a scam...but I remember discovering not too long ago that it's not quite what I thought it was. The hair only goes to people with a very specific type of illness (I don't remember what). (Although now that I'm looking at their website...I see that it does say "children with hair loss from any type of diagnosis...so maybe they've changed it.) It does need to be at least 10 inches, and they do now accept colored hair (I think that's also a change...at one point, they didn't take colored hair).
Pantene Beautiful Lengths is another option. They only require 8 inches.

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."
I've done it 3 times for LOL but will do pantene next time. When I started digging about LOL I was not impressed. Pantene does not discriminate as much and according to some info they have made more wigs in their short time they have been around. I am ready for round 4 this spring/summer. I think another teacher and I are goign to have a challenge at school if my team wins I will cut her hair and if her team wins she'll cut mine in front of the whole school. (We'll have salon appointments for later) I have a feeling though we'll both end up donating.

That's a great idea!
My school raised money for St. Jude last week, and if we got to $2500 (which we did) the principal and several teachers would all shave their heads. They had their haircuts Monday night at a fundraiser.
