Invisible Fence?
Do any of you girls have these? DoggieCrushing knocked me down good again yesterday on his runner. He gets excited if he sees a toy and then makes a run for it, and unfortunately I have been knocked down a few times. With a LO on the way we are worried about having the dog on the runner knock him/her down. We have 1.5 acres with only about half of that cleared. I think to fence in even that portion with a standard fence would be really pricey so I am thinking invisible fence might be the way to go. I am just nervous about whether it will really keep him in the yard. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Ask on pets- there are some horror stories out there.
My take- I'm pretty anti-invisible fence. Not only because it won't keep other animals OUT of your yard- but if my dog wanted to get to something badly enough (another dog, a cat...) a shock isn't going to phase her! My friend's dog also runs through the fence every single day and then he won't come back in because he remembers it shocks him.
BUT with that said, a few of our neighbors have them and they do keep their dogs contained. You're a good owner and aren't going to be leaving Doggy out there alone all day with nothing containing him but this fence- he'll be supervised, so I think you have a leg (or 2!) up on everyone else!
I would probably save my money up to do a standard fence because what if you sink all of your money into an invisible fence only to have him think nothing of getting shocked?
This is exactly what I am afraid of....him not staying inside. I see a ton of pups in my neighborhood staying in their yards just barking there, and it amazes me. My guy is a pretty big pup so I am afraid of him breaking through.
H says it will be about 10K to fence in just our cleared portion of yard....I am not sure how much an invisible fence is, but I assume it is under 2K.
I don't know what to do.
Our neighbor has an invisible fence and their dog stays in the yard. Granted we've only been here a year and half. I imagine it also has to do with his personality too. He's pretty laid back.
How awful. I have someone coming out this weekend to quote us on a regular fence.
I'd chain link before invisible. I don't like the idea of them and I also don't trust them.
And I also tend to default to Punky and her bounty of dog experience when I'm curious about something!
I know....Punky is the expert.
I will for sure see about different pricing. I don't want a wooden fence because I don't want to have to deal with staining it or painting it...rot...mold. Blehh. I want something low maintenance. You know what I mean?
I didn't even think of that. Good idea.
I have two large black labs, and I am not a fan of them at all. My dogs would break thru them in a heart beat if they wanted something on the otherside. I think they provide a false sense of security. Our friends had one and their dog was really scared when they first got it, he would shake and not go in the back yard. He was a mellow lab and they just wanted it so he wouldn't wander.
We have a wooden fence, I believe it's cedar, it's treated and there is no need to stain or really any maintence. Wood fences can be sturdy and low maintence if you shop around.
