Things that creep you out?

(eta: SORRY ABOUT THE FORMATTING...maybe it's fixed now?  Dumb Nest)

I was just reading the Scouting New York blog (www.scoutingny.com) and came across this post.  I will admit to having a (irrational?) fear of sidewalk grates.  I will not walk on them.  I will cross a street to avoid walking on one.  This was not a good blog entry for me to read.  Indifferent

http://www.scoutingny.com/?p=3316

(That is an awesome blog though...I highly recommend reading other entries.)

I'm also thoroughly creeped out by pictures of Nemo 33 - the world's deepest swimming pool.  (I'll let you Google it....I just can't.  It's bad enough I can see the pictures in my head...)

Basically deep holes (especially ones filled with water) really freak me out.

What creeps you out?

Re: Things that creep you out?

  • That pool is insane!  I think it'd be one thing to go diving in open water, but a pool like that would freak me out.

Blood or talk of injuries creep me out.  It makes my wrists feel like they are going to spontaneously burst open and start letting all my blood out.  When I see an injury or hear someone talk about one (even on tv) I grab my wrists and hold on like crazy to keep them from bursting open, even now I had to stop for a minute and do it...

  • I'm so with you on the sidewalk grates or any type of drainage grate.  We have a little one in the middle of our garage and I refuse to walk in there in the dark because I don't want to step on it.

Earwigs and centipedes are the biggest for me.  I get goosebumps just thinking about them.  We had earwigs all over one side of our house.  I can't tell you how many times I ran in or out of the house screaming and waving my arms around.   I'd do an earwig check every night before bed because I was so paranoid that they were going to get in our bed.  DH woke me up from dreams where I'd be yelling to duck because the earwigs were going to get us.  And the centipedes.....OMFG.  We have the hugest ones and they f'ing move fast.  I just scream and wait for DH to kill them.

  • That pool is kind of cool. I'd go in it, but I wouldn't go into any of the "rooms"... that would freak me out. I'd feel trapped.

One thing that gives me the heebe jeebes is popsicle sticks. The though of chewing on them, sucking on them.. anything.. makes my skin crawl. Even just thinking about it now gives me the shivers.

I'll eat popsicles, corndogs etc on a stick but I will not touch the stick to my teeth/tongue.

Oh I totally know what you mean!!!  I will eat stuff off them but strive to not let the wood touch any part of my mouth.

I don't think I could even go in the room where the pool is.  *shudder*  Just seeing a dark shadowy spot from above the water where the deep hole is would be enough to freak me out!!  Actually...being in the building would make me nervous!

  • I got the heebies jeebies just Googling this to show you guys.  My family went to see the Queen Mary docked in Long Beach CA and I encountered something that freaks me out to this day just thinking about it.

I walked into a room where there was a railing.

    image

I looked over the railing and saw THIS.   Sorry.  I can't PIP because I don't want to see it again if I scroll back through this post.

Oh man.  My heart is pounding now and my stomach just flip flopped.  That was a terrifying experience for me.  I couldn't get out of that room fast enough!!

  • That pool makes me want to throw up.

I am creeped out by leeches or any type of parasite really.  Thinking about someone having worms makes me want to vom.  The fact that an organism could be feeding off of my body is disgusting. I can't BELIEVE that people used to intentionally swallow tape worms to stay thin. GAG. Ick!

Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO

  • Nothing in this post yet screams of anything that I am remotely scared of...

I do, however, have an irrational fear of wood ticks...but since I live in MN I feel that it is justified!

  • The deep water stuff doesn't freak me out too much.

I don't love heights. Like, when we were on our honeymoon in NYC and we went to the top of the Empire State Building, it almost made me sick. I just feel so unstable being so high in the air. I know it's not rational.

Also ... snakes. I hate typing that word and I have heebeejeebees just thinking about them. I get totally creeped out seeing a photo of a snake in a book or magazine. I love National Geographic magazine, but I make Andy page through it before I read it, just to make sure there are no snake photos. Seriously. I can't handle it.

This! I once saw one make it's way under my couch before I could kill it. Even though I know full well that it didn't go under the couch and stay there, it was weeks before I could sit there again.

DH has gotten pretty good at killing bugs and things in mid-conversation before I even see them. I love him!

Ok that freaked me out a little. Why would they do that? Just to give you a sense of how large it is? So unnecessary.

I am super afraid of mice, bats and snakes. I've had to deal with the first two, but never had to deal with snakes. Although DH has said that there are couple in the tall grass at our cabin. So if it's my turn to mow the lawn, I give that area a wide berth. I'm so glad we hired someone to mow our lawns this summer.

Oh and I faint really easily, like at the sight of iodine or whatever it is that makes your skin yellow when they're taking out stitches. I'm faint just thinking about it.

  • I'm terrified of birds. TERRIFIED. I had to stay back from a field trip a couple months ago because they were going to see birds.
  • Deep water doesn't bother me so much, but I have a fear of drowning. I have a hard time watching The Abyss for that very reason, and I used to assist teaching swimming lessons and water safety for the Red Cross and have no problem diving head-first in pools. Figure that one out. Stick out tongue

I have a thing about eyes. I don't like having them messed with or touched or examined in any way. I hate eye exams with a passion. When the girls had their eyes examined, I preferred not to be there or I would look away during the procedure. I can't even watch that episode of South Park where Butters takes a ninja star to the eye.

I've actually never thought about a wooden spoon giving me the creeps. I have no problem using them, but when I think about making a spaghetti sauce or something and tasting it off the spoon, I get a little shiver.

I don't have many wooden spoons, I'm more a spatula girl. Maybe I've subconsciously never bought them because they're wood? Hmmm Huh?

  • Eek. Kiz - you probably shouldn't google quarry jumping. For those of you that are interested, click here.

And yes - I've been to this quarry to go swimming, but not jumping.

I'm not really afraid of deep water, but that deep pool creeps me out. I get claustrophobic at the grocery store or in the mall where there's a lot of people - and definitely in elevators - but I'm not too afraid of much else. DH works a lot so I have to kill my own bugs. I keep extra flip flops in the basement just for that.

  • -Just the mere thought of bed bugs. I haven't experienced them but seeing photos and hearing stories of infestations makes my heart race. I am super paranoid and cautious. And it's pretty irrational since I haven't personally experienced it.

-Under water caves. There is a new James Cameron movie coming out called Caves I think? And the preview makes me light headed.

-The feeling/noise when you cinch the drawstring of a hoodie. The cotton on cotton sound gives me shivers. I almost always take the cords out of mine.

Me too!  I guess that is kind of related to my "deep holes with water in them" fear.

My friend repelled down into a cave and then went snorkeling while she was on her honeymoon in Mexico.  That gave me shivers down my spine thinking about it!!

I was even afraid of riding the boat through It's A Small World at Disney even though I knew the water we were in couldn't have been more than a foot or two deep...

I'm weird with water.  :-)  Wide open lakes or quarries don't bother me though.

  • Needles. I have never passed out from one, but I still get very jumpy, and very scared when one comes near me. When I was PG with DS2, I had to get a shot and they insisted it had to be done in my upper rear end and I panicked and started crying. Not being able to see what they were doing terrified me. Needles are the WORST!

I also have a creepo-factor with falling. It's not even the heights - if I'm at a tall height and look out, I'm fine. When I peer over a railing or look straight down in any way, I'm screwed. My mind starts imagining what it would be like if the railing gave out or the balcony or bridge I'm on collapsed and I had that few seconds of terrifying falling to think of my impending death. Irrational, I know.

Agreed!  Why would you swim in that?!?!  I would be scared the there would be an outlet cover fail and electrocute the whole place.   Pools are supposed to be simple, and neat and clean.  Not with tubes and pipes and tunnels!

Ummm....you don't swim in those pools.  That is how they store nuclear reactor waste.
