Do you Roomba?

I posted this a little while back on TB August 2010 board but figured this might be an even better place to ask.

I vacuum the house at least 3 days a week and I'm OVER it! We're looking into getting a Roomba or similar robot vacuum. I have an animal Dyson that is amazing so I'm not expecting a Roomba to do the heaving cleaning, but I'd like to at least cut back to once a week. If you have experience with any of these types of machines, please share. Also, please list the model number you have and maybe explain why you chose that particular one. I'd love you forever if you could tell me it was the greatest purchase you've ever made. Thanks!

Re: Do you Roomba?

  • I plan on getting the Neato Robotics vacuum in the very near future.  It's supposed to be more sophisticated than the Roomba, that's why I'm choosing it.  The Roomba is very random but the Neato goes in straight lines around the room.  My 1 fear is that I've read their customer service sucks, but we'll see.
  • We have a Roomba, and we run it every day (we don't have carpet, and the cat fur and dust gets crazy if we don't do it that often).  We have one of the older models, and it was a gift, so that won't really be any help to you.

Even though it's a little noisy and it takes longer than sweeping the floor ourselves, it is nice to just empty the dust bin, leave it in a room, and come back later to have a clean floor.

We like our Roomba, but a Neato robot is definitely in the running for its eventual replacement.

  • we have a roomba and love it.  We only use it on our first floor which is all hard wood floors but it does a great job.  There are definitely areas we still have to get (under a few chairs where it gets stuck) but those areas take far less time than doing the whole floor!

  • I love that it cleans under furniture like the couches or bed.  I walk barefoot on my hardwood floors and hate feeling dust on my feet, so I run it every other day.

I got the cheap $90 one from target, and I've had it for a year now.  I noticed they're on clearance now, so maybe watch for a deal.
