if you have a baby or young child, what clothes/toys do you put where?

What clothes did you put in dresser vs closet?  If you use bins, what do you put in them?  Do you keep all toys in a play room or are they spread out in different rooms?  If in different rooms, what do you keep where?  Pictures of your organization would help me a lot.  Thanks.

  • Sleepers go in chest, socks go in an old cute Easter basket, onesies go in one of those 3-tier plastic drawer bins (middle drawer), burp cloths go in top drawer of bin, and blankets go in bottom drawer of bin).  All "clothes" get hung.

Most toys stay in our playroom (we have a walk-in closet and DH added a TON of shelves).  We spend most of our time on the main living area (playroom is upstairs).  I keep the toys that are played with most in a laundry basket in our living room.  We have some other "big" toys like the stride-to-ride dino and they stay in extra cabinets (I keep our kitchen VERY streamlined so we always have extra storage spots).

  • Clothes- pj's, socks, t-shirts, knit pants and leggings are in the dresser.  Most of DD's everyday shirts, jeans, pants, dresses are hanging in her closet- it makes it easier to see what's there faster.  There's also a small chest of drawers in the closet that I keep stuff that is the next size up in, and there's a bin up on the shelf for outgrown clothes to go into.  Shoes are in a small basket on the chest of drawers.

Toys- I like the toys spread out so that DD can play where we are without having to drag stuff everywhere.  DD's play kitchen is in a corner of our kitchen, the bulk of her toys and about half of her books are in the living room in baskets or on shelves in one of these bookcases from IKEA (ours is horizontal), more toys and books in her room on a small bookshelf and in bins in another IKEA storage unit, and she has a couple of bins (actually Target canvas laundry bins) of toys and books and her PB anywhere chair in the basement family room.

  • All clothes are hung - we have a closet organizer system so different sizes are on different rungs. Easier to see all clothes if they are hanging. Socks, hats, and bibs are in baskets in closet on shelves. We also have baskets on changing table for burp clothes and another one for sleepsacks. Stuffed animals are in toy chest in baby's room. All other toys are in bins in family room - that's what we're using as the "playroom"
  • This has all changed over the past 3 years.  As a baby, almost everything fit into her dressers except for stuff that I wanted hanging (all dresses, etc).  At 3, her pants, shorts, jammies, shirts, socks, underwear, dance clothes, and swim stuff is in the dressers.  All sweatshirts and jackets are hanging as well as dresses, skirts, nicer tops, sweaters, etc.  I also have one of those baby closed divider rack things and have some blankets, and random clothes (like jeans when the pants drawer got too full) on the shelves of that.

Toys are everywhere... organized, but everywhere.  In the family room is a bookshelf full of books, her play kitchen, her chest of dress up clothes, a small basket of random stuff, and a folding shelf with the favorite toys.  In the kitchen is her little table and her art supply drawers as well as some toys in part of a cabinet/bookshelf.  Her battery powered ride on and bike are tucked away in the living room.  Her vanity and doll stuff is in her bedroom.  Everything else is up in the loft except for a small bookcase that fit in a cutout in the hall. Stuffed toys are almost all shoved into a Boon stuffed animal "bean bag" (LOVE this item).
