NFP: anyone doing it?

I'm at the end of a birth control prescription....is anyone doing Natural Family Planning? BC turns me into a hormonal monster, I've been on it since i was 16 and I'm kinda over it....anyone?

Re: NFP: anyone doing it?

  • I haven't used any kind of birth control for a looooong time just because Jason and I both have issues that we were told will make it hard for us to have kids, but recently I've started temping in the mornings just because I am curious.  My periods are totally wacky so I'm just doing it to try to figure out my body a bit.  A lot of women swear by it though.

  • I haven't been on BC for about a year and 7 or 8 months, I have the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and it is amazing at teaching you how to read/understand your cycle. I don't think I would ever go back on BC.

  • I'm a charter.  I use www.femilia.com and have been tracking my period/ovulation/symptons for about a year and a half I guess.  I haven't been on BC since Jan 08.  I absolutely love this method.  I don't have any crazy added hormones in my system and won't have any wait period if we decide to TTC tomorrow.

It's also nice because that particular site sends me emails 3 days before my period so I know to prepare and 5 days before O so we know there's a huge stop sign!

I may have to check that out.....so you're charting?

  • Ashlee, I know you're TTC, but this book sounds interesting!

Kearstin - so you're not TTC but just use charting to know the ideal times to have sex and be unlikely to get PG?

  • We have just used condoms for YEARS (like, probably 8 or 9 years).  I was on the pill before that (in addition to using condoms for backup).

But, I've also been keeping track of my periods and stuff recently, because I realized that i"m 34 and have never kept track.  lol  I haven't gone so far as temping or anything, but if I do, at this point, it'll just be more for curiousity sake, as we are not currently ttc.

Correct.  I currently use it to not get KTFU, however, from tracking for so long I am now fully aware of the ideal times to TTC for my body.  So, in theory, it should be relatively easy when it comes to baby makin!

I 100% agree, talk to your hubby, as this is now a "we" situation rather than a "me" for the most part.

And yes, yes we do Wilted Flower

  • I am on my last pill cycle and just started charting to know how my body works so that we will know the better times when we begin TTC in a couple months.  I am pretty sure that I want to continue charting after our first child too though...
