One: can I steam my own carrots for Nolan now? Am I still worried about nitrates or whatever it is in carrots???
Two: it's the beginning of Lent. Can Nolan have regular fish like haddock or cod? I know he can't have shellfish.
Three: does anyone have a good homemade blueberry muffin recipe???
Re: Food Questions
I'm not sure about the baby food stuff. I know my mother fed me steamed haddock as a "baby" but I'm not sure of the age...and I know times have changed.
Easy, wonderful blueberry muffins:

Yes on the carrots! You can start carrots at 6 months http://wholesomebabyfood.com/carrotsbabyfoodrecipes.html
I love this website..my pedi recommended it and it has info on all the first foods!
1- I dont' see why you can't do your own carrots. I never worried about that sort of thing and if I felt like making something, I did. The ony thing I ever considered was maybe buying organic for some stuff.
2- We totally gave James shellfish- along with peanut butter, dairy, and all those other allergy warning things- early. We also don't have a history of food allergies and we were attentive to watch for reactions, but I didn't see any real reason to wait once he was eating real food. He also would get any fish we felt like. (We do try to avoid fish high in mercury, so he doesn't really get tuna.)
3- If I do, it's from allrecipes.com and I couldn't point you to it!
Definitely banking the http://wholesomebabyfood.com website- good call ladies!
And now I really want a blueberry muffin- Brianne, yours have had my eye for a while now, maybe I'll finally make some next week!

I've been doing carrot puree, but just being careful.

As far as seafood, I have an old WTE "the first year" and they say to feed fish. I would think as long as it was a low mercury etc. and you felt comfortable why not? I haven't fed Caroline any fish yet, but will probably start this summer when I eat more.
I would say yes to both. We started doing carrots for Luke at Nolan's age and he loves them. We also gave him shelfish and peanut butter and all the alergens. Doc said we could start introducing at a year, but we did it before and just watched. Actually, the lobster, I didn't even think and just gave him it and only after realized there could've been an allergic reaction.
Those look perfect! Thanks for sharing!
I do this all the time and have for awhile. When I made turkey soup a few months ago we learned she looooooves cooked carrots! My least favorite vegetable cooked, of course. Also it depends on the pedi, but fish is generally considered okay. Riley has had tuna (canned) and haddock. Obviously we do very little tuna due to the mercury, but I do make casserole or use it in a sandwich once in awhile.
