*LB* s/o Donating blood/plasma

Now you can do this too!  You're welcome. ;)

What?s in this for me?

Plasma donors receive compensation in cash for each donation. This is in recognition of the time you are willing to devote to boosting the availability of this critical medical resource.

Re: *LB* s/o Donating blood/plasma

  • I tried to donate plasma once but my veins are too small for the needles. Also, there were some really skeevy looking people there. I don't think they were donating plasma for the benefit of mankind.

    LB wouldn't be either.

True. But I hope she's not going to buy crack with the proceeds, lol.

  • I am not even joking that I seriously considered donating plasma when I was a brokeass college student.  I had a friend that did it a few times a week (a sorority sister!  We had to pay for those mani/pedis somehow) and I actually went with her.  But it was all meth addict looking folk so I got scared and decided it wasn't worth the $12 or whatever.

But no, I would not do it for the benefit of mankind.  I'm really selfish and heartless.  Honestly.  I feel like people don't believe me.

I feel like this statement is so backwards. Most people would be saying "I swear I'm NOT selfish & heartless. Honestly. I feel like people don't believe me."

But not our dear, LB. She's a selfish, heartless capitalist. Stick out tongue

lol You beat me to it. I was going to suggest plasma donation to her.

I knew people in college who did it so they would have drinking money for that night. Morons were beyond sick. Yeah...don't drink on the day you donate.

I don't judge this any more or less than people that use any kind of paycheck/money to buy drugs.

  • I tried looking it up but I don't really get what the difference between blood and plasma donation is. At least to the extent that they pay you for one and not for the other. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Well, from my understanding, my friend would donate (sober), get her dolla dolla bills and THEN go drink. So the plasma wasn't vodka-infused. If that makes a difference.Haters gonna hate? Lol

It's more involved. They have to remove a lot more blood to get adequate amounts of plasma so they circle it back into you. I believe they pull from one arm, circulate the plasma out and then give the blood back to you in the other arm. (With much more technical medical terms to explain what I actually just said.)

That's what they did. Even when you donate blood they tell you to take it easy & drink lots of water. I've felt bad when I have a beer or 2 after I donate. They did the plasma, went out drinking and then felt like total and utter crap.

This is true.  It takes a long longer time-wise too.  In many places, they'll put a movie on for you to watch while you're donating.

  • I think you also have to have donated a certain amount of blood before to be able to donate plasma. They told me I was ineligible to donate plasma, not that I'd want to, needles and donating blood makes me faint every single time.

Oh snizzap! Prices have gone up since 2003. If I don't get a job soon maybe I can donate plasma after I get off the pole for the day. (I almost said for the night but then I realized I'd probably be a morning/breakfast shift stripper until I built up some experience for the ol' resume.)

No, no, LB. You are way better than the morning shift. C'mon now, have some standards! ;)
