Makeup on babies?

I ran across a blog tonight. Won't say whose it was, but there were some photos in which a 6-month-old child was wearing more makeup than I had on today.

So...

Three, two, one... GO!

Re: Makeup on babies?

  • Hmmm.... Other than Halloween or something similar, I can't think of any reason why it would be reasonable for an infant to wear any amount of makeup.
  • Except for Halloween or dress-up, not acceptable in my book.

  • A 6 month old in make-up is a little absurd in my mind; unless like others have said its for halloween.

  • Indifferent I can't imagine putting make-up on a baby. I can't watch the pageant shows because I think it's absurb to make a 6 year old look much older than she is. I would definetly give the side eye to that blogger.

  • Gross. I can't imagine a situation where that would be necessary.

  • I'd never do it, but I don't think I'd necessarily judge someone else for doing it IF the reason why they did it was for a funny picture. It's no weirder an accessory IMO than sticking a giant flower on a baby's head, a pithy-saying on a onesie, or anything Anne Geddes ever did. I don't find any of the three amusing, but they don't offend me in any way. Heck, I was bald until I was almost 2 and my own mom used Karo Syrup to stick bows onto my head. People do strange things in pursuit of what they think is cute.

And, I suppose I should wait for UO Thursday for this, but it seems relevent here. It's not clear to me how makeup on a baby or pierced ears on a baby are any different. Both are unnecessary displays of femininity that gender infants who, themselves, have no concept of gender. I wouldn't personally do either, but I know a lot of people do the latter, at least.

I don't mean this to attack or offend anyone who has had their infant's ears pierced, but I agree and actually see the pierced ears as worse.

    I think I love you.
