Yay, voting..

Our school finally got our contract approved after 3 years of no contract!

It's a big relief because last year, they lost half the teachers, and if it didn't pass again I think they'd probably lose most of the rest. So yay!

  • FINALLY!!!  We went one year without a contract and that was stressful enough!  Can't imagine 3 years!
  • Woot! Congratulations!

We got a one year approved this year, but I'm afraid that we'll be back to the drawing board and be without one for next year. That would completely blow for me since I'm up for a $5K raise for my Master's and I won't get it until we have a new contract. My DH reminded me of that this morning. Totally wrecked my positive outlook of dropping my college teaching since the pay increase would make up for it. Ugh.

  • That is great news. Congratulations!

  • Susie..You should still get your raise for your Masters. I know that even without a new one here, you were able to move based on advancement. You just didn't get credit for each new year you taught. Or at least that was the impression I was given.

Yeah, its so nice. Puts a nice positive atmosphere around here that was needed. Now, I just need to figure out if the big pay increase I'm getting (3 years worth and a Master's boost) is worth the commute :) The damn commute is so hard with the kids at home. Part of me thinks it might be, especially with the lovely changes I'm sure LePage will bring to Maine education Tongue Tied

  • I'm going to ask someone who has a clue to see if they can tell me (I'm not a union member, so it really depends on who will actually talk to me.). I'm hoping that will be the case. I love the college thing, but the money is good. If I can ditch it and take a minimal hit on the pay side then it won't hurt as bad.

I'd stay where you are even though the commute sucks. The job market in Maine is going to blow unless you find a district that has a lot of retirements (like mine) because of an incentive. And the rumors as to what LePage will be doing to education are enough to make me shutter. Stay where you are and where you have stability.
