Still in pain...

Since my shin splints are still kicking my ass, even when I am just sitting here, I broke down and bought some better running shoes. My Brooks Ariels will be here tomorrow. Based off all of the information at Runner's World and Brooks' website, those were the shoes for me, so I got them off of Amazon. They are normally like $130, and they were $72 on Amazon, so I spent the extra $10 to get them tomorrow! So excited to have them for my next run!!!

Re: Still in pain...

  • I hope they help!! Don't forget to give yourself time to heal though or they won't help much!
  • did the expensive socks help at all ???  hope the new kicks help!
  • The socks did help some, but I just know that the shoes are a bigger culprit. I always give myself a day inbetween the running, but this last time was a real doozy!! I already downloaded the Bridge to 10K app to start after I completed the Couch to 5K app, so I want to be ready to go on that!

  • Ugh shin splints are a pain, I agree w/Laurie don't forget to give yourself enough time to heal! I hope the shoes help and I will ask my brother who had shin splints before if there was anything helpful that he knows about.

  • I really hope your shoes help. Stretching them helps a little bit, too, and icing after your run (to stretch you can draw the ABCs in the air with your toes - it works!)
  • Incase you didn't see my post to the last post you made about shin splints... alot of the time a sneaker won't shape your arch enough or too much if they are extreme (like mine. FLAT. no such thing as an arch) so i use these suckers - MUCH less expensive than custom inserts yet work like a dream!

good luck - and popping Aleeve regularly can also reduce the inflammation!

  • My mom loves the Brooks line too.  She always buys those for her walkng shoes.

  • I agree with ice.  I had shin splints in high school from all the dancing we had to do in a musical.  I would come home and sit with ice packs on my legs every night.

This!  Also, if you can, avoid running on sidewalks, they are a sure way to activate my shin splints.  GL!
