H and I are trying to prepare for a month long separation when I move for this job. One of the things we need to take care of is a bank acct. We have our accts at a local bank, very small and we love it but the problem is sharing money across the state. Tell me about your bank and if you love/hate it. Weve had Chase before and I dont know that we'd go back to them. They are convenient but super fee-based. Im looking into PNC and Huntington. Thanks ladies!
.*. We come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by finding an imperfect person perfectly .*.
Re: Tell me about your bank
I'm no help as we have a credit union. We've been screwed by 3 different banks and I don't think we'll ever go back if we can help it. I prefer a CU that isn't interested in trying to take all my money away from me.
Sorry, I'm a bit cynical.
My Profile
Bank of America is great b/c of their advanced technology, but they are super fee-based as well. One great thing they've done is to allow you to choose to have a transaction be declined if it will cause you to overdraft. I love this feature b/c I typically only have $20/30 in that particular account at a time.
TD Bank is another great bank - They call themselves America's Most Convenient Bank and they truly are.. Open 7 days a week and all. We have our Business account and one personal account with them and they are fantastic. To choose between the two banks, I would recommend TD Bank if there is one in your geographic location.
you're gonna need to know what banks are here
there are some great community banks, but it sounds like that wont work for you.
we bank with chase...i don't know if they've changed since you last had them, but we have no fees ever (unless we overdraft i assume). it's VERY convenient bc of all the ATMs and it's available all over the country as well.
i've banked with National City until they changed to PNC. they were just ok.
i haven't banked with Huntington since i was a child...i had a savings acct there. but, you will want to check their locations in relation to where you plan on living. i think finding ATMs would be hard, if thats something u care about.
they're all about a dime a dozen to me. i actually like chase bc i think they're online banking and bill pay is super easy. we had some issues wiht national city's being totally confusing.
another bank is 5/3...i don't bank there but my mortgage is through them.
good luck!
We have USAA, but also BofA b/c I wanted an actual bank to be able to go to. The account I have will charge you fees if you don't keep a certain balance or overdraft, but they don't charge regular old fees. I think they tried to once and I called them and threatened to leave.
The thing I like best about BoA is my debit card - it has my picture on it. Not sure that they're still doing this, but I love it b/c I never have to pull my ID out. I also like their online stuff b/c I can set up Bill Pay to pay H's credit card and things and it's $0 for that.
They charge a monthly fee unless you have over a certain balance or direct deposit of a certain amt. and at this point I cant guarantee anything you know? The overdraft fees are more than our local and our local doesnt charge you unless yoiu overdraft more than $2. I guess thats probably going to get me wherever I go. Right now were considering heavily Chase and Huntington.
My friend has PNC and she just said she hates it, plus it doesnt seem very accessible. Chase and Huntington have locations all over Columbus.

yea, we have direct deposit so i guess we dont have to worry about fees.
i must live in an area wihtout many huntingtons bc i never see any. and yeah, PNC sucks.
We bank with Wachovia (now Wells Fargo) and I have had a Wells Fargo account for years and years. I like Wells Fargo. It has been an acceptable bank for me.
I absolutely HATED Bank of America. They screwed me over so many times and I got hit up with so many ridiculous fees from them. I was so happy the day I closed my account with them.
