Sled dogs in Alaska's Iditarod race burn 240 calories per pound per day.

Yeah, they actually have to force them to take breaks because left to their own devices the dogs will just keep going until they could literally burn out. They love to run. We did a dog sledding excursion in Alaska where dogs who have run or are trained to run the Iditarod are hooked up to a cart that you sit in and they run through a short track. I think there were 12 or 16 dogs for it and they were having the time of their life.
