Laundry - Towels

Do you do anything different from cleaning your clothes than towels to keep towels staying and smelling fresh? I want them to come out as fresh as the clothes, but maybe I put to many in at a time.

Re: Laundry - Towels

  • I don't, no.  All our towels are white, so I just wash them w/ our whites.  I use bleach and Arm & Hammer w/ Oxy liquid detergent (I got the Arm & Hammer at the grocery store) to wash, then a dryer sheet to keep away static.  That detergent seems to do a really good job at keeping the clothes clean and they smell great.

  • Clothes get washed in cold water, linens in hot water.

I use the same detergent regardless of what I'm washing. I don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets for anything (it reduces the absorbency of towels by the way). I really don't have static issues with my dryer, but if you do maybe try some dryer balls or a few clean tennis balls.

Make sure when you dry the towels, that they're thoroughly dry.

I think you are answering your own question here.  If the washing machine is packed, the clothes do not get enough agitation (swirl around in the water enough) and do not smell as fresh.  I will generally do 1 to 2 loads a week of just towels/rugs so that the towels/rugs have enough room to swirl.
  • I always wash towels in hot water and also use those oxy clean packets which I think make towels smell great.

  • I wash towels in hotter water (not the hottest the washer gets, but hotter than my clothes) and have recently been putting vinegar in the downy ball. I never use fabric softener because I think fs makes my towels less absorbant. I feel like my key is that I only use soap up to the 1 line on the soap cup, and do a double rinse.

This is also my opinion on washing towels
