So I have been thinking of picking up some side work for extra income, and with my full-time work schedule I think that baby sitting and/or pet sitting would be more feasible than trying to get a PT job in retail or elsewhere. Unfortunately, the last time I baby sat was back in college - like 5+ years ago. Also, none of my friends have children to get more current experience and references.
Does anyone here babysit? How did you get started? How did you find your clients? Flyers, online...? I feel like it was so easy to find clients when I was in high school, but I think most of them I met through my parents, who live an hour away.
Re: Babysitting for extra $$$
I found a few families to babysit for on sittercity.com (before care.com took off in this area).
The first few didn't ask for references (
), even though I had not done any babysitting in 6+ years. Later on I used the 2 local families I had done some work with.
It probably helped that I work in a professional job that I had lots of exposure to children. One family wanted to look at my driver's license so they had my true information (in case something happened).
Babysitting is not for me anymore... the 30's kinda happen and it just seems "awkward" to still do child care nights/weekends anymore. I'd still help out if one of the previous families asked, but no one has in over a year.
Best of luck!
As I search Indeed.com for jobs in my area, I've been noticing a lot of individuals seeking child care lately, especially with the summer months approaching and school being out soon. If you're comfortable with the idea, maybe you could try browsing the website for possible opportunities in Atlanta.
Another option is to network on Facebook. I know it sounds silly, but people know people who know people! I actually just set a friend up with a weekend babysitter last week. They don't know each other, but I know both individuals and they just so happened to post the same idea of needing a babysitter/ needing part-time work in the same day. It was odd and coincidental, but it worked out and I was happy to help!
Good luck!
