Glucose Test

I have my 1-hour glucose test tomorrow and misplaced my paper on it. Is there anything special I need to do or not do tonight/tomorrow morning? I know the 3-hour one is more complex, but I couldn't remember on this one.

They just told me not to eat a sugary breakfast. Take something to read! I don't know if you've been going to the downtown office for your checkups, but their magazine selection sucked when I was going there. I can't imagine it's changed.
  • Well, I can handle a non-sugary breakfast! I should probably eat something though, huh? (I normally don't eat breakfast until 10 or so.)

The downtown selection still sucks. I wouldn't even call it a selection. I'll bring a book - I've got 4 days to read about 200 pages! Thanks for the reminder!

  • Don't choose the orange flavor.  That's all I have to add :)

Is it odd that I hate orange soda, but actually liked the orange Glucola last time?  I have nothing to compare it to, of course, but maybe I'll try the other flavor this time around.

  • I just took it 2 weeks ago. My doctor gave me the drink to take home and reminded me to take it right before my next appointment because they didn't want me waiting around the office for that long of a time. Here were my instructions:

Eat a bland breakfast and lunch. Chug it within 10min. Take it 45 minutes before appointment so they can draw blood immediately. Write down the start time that you start drinking it so they know when to draw your blood. Refrigerate the drink prior to drinking. The orange flavor is not too bad just leaves a bad after taste.

Depending on your appointment time, just call the office and ask for a new set of directions.

  • 8 am appointment so no time to call for a new set of directions. I'll be doing the whole thing there so I'll just plan on a bland breakfast and getting the rest of my directions then. Chugging something that is supposedly nasty does not sound fun!
  • I got a slight headache from it but it isn't as bad as people make it sound. Bad aftertaste - think koolaid without sugar.
  • I LOVE the orange and the sprite tasting glucola!!  Ha!   The cola flavor is nasty but then I'm a die hard pepsi fan.

I don't like orange soda, but I don't like sweets in general.  So for me it was just a gross experience overall.

I had to choke it down.  I just couldn't do it.  I'm sure the girls in the waiting room were impressed with my gagging face.  Poor gals.
