What is your Lent thing?

I am giving up the boards during the day while she is awake. I am a bad bad bad mommy for doing that so much. So really I am spending more time with Audrey for Lent and hoping to get that into a good routine of getting out more. We are also trying to get to church more on a regular basis. Is anyone else doing something extra that is a positive or giving up a negative thing in their life?

Re: What is your Lent thing?

  • i think it's a coincidence that it coincides with Lent, but i'm making an effort to get healthier. i'm tired all the time and i just feel blah. i know a huge part of it is bc of winter....but i need to have a better outlook and take MUCH better care of myself. so...thats it :)

  • Have you had a Bp check recently? are you on any meds anymore for it?
  • haven't been to the doc lately...still on all my meds. hence the "take better care of myself". i need to make an appt to get re-checked.

  • I'm having a hard time choosing this year. Normally I give up sweets but I don't see myself holding on to that one. I think I'm going to give up going out to lunch (as in during the work week) it should be good for me and my wallet.

My meds are like "kill fetus" status. Are yours pregnancy safe just in case?

  • I'm giving up cookies. Couldn't do all sweets, but I am eating wayyyyy too many chocolate chip cookies.

Agreed. I instantly want whatever I decide to give up and I have no will power. Plus I'm not religious so no lent things for me!

Is this mostly a Catholic thing? I know H's family is real big about it (not H himself though). Growing up my family never even mentioned it.

Awesome! I am excited about your trip for you so hopefully you get a definitive answer about your flo by then. Of course, I got a BFN the day I went to a bachelorette party but a BFP 2 days later. Whoops.

I believe there are some Protestant churches that do the same but yes, Catholics participate in Lent.

yeah. At least I think. Ha. My family follows the tradition of no meat (seafood is ok) on Fridays during Lent. Growing up that was the only thing I/we gave up.

Yeah I grew up Lutheran even though my mom and her family were Catholic. The only time we didnt eat meat was on Good Friday.

Pregnant Catholics do not have to abstain from meat or give anything up. They are exempt from fasting and abstaining.

Woh! I knew that I didn't have to fast but I didn't know that I didn't have to abstain!

Ya know I heard that recently and thought it was a joke/myth. At any rate, I don't consider myself catholic anyway, but rather atheist. It's always weird tho around these parts when you get the stink eye from people when they see you eating meat on any Friday during Lent. Haha
  • Haha steph yes indeed. I'm not Catholic but around here boy it's crazy.  I have to say the seafood dishes they come up with are very yummy but do not bother going out to dinner around here on a Friday night because you will wait forever because everyone goes out for their seafood.

I'm not giving anything up but rather taking something on.

I want to be more organized at home because I think that will give me more time with H and Ava.

I also want to try and get us out of the house once a weekend somehwere even if it's just a walk in the neighborhood now that she's more alert
