I need your party ideas :)

My mom is turning 50 in a few weeks and we are trying to put together a little party for her. My dad doesn't have lots of money to spend so we are trying to think of ideas that would make it fun and special, but cheap :)

Since my mom loves margaritas, I am thinking of a margarita party! I'll make a few different kinds of margaritas and we will probably have a taco bar or something mexican. I don't want this to get too Cinco de Mayo though!

Do you think it would be dumb to have something like this there?

I was thinking of making a photo op area...wish I could rent a photo booth!

Any other ideas? She would be PISSED if I did anything over the hill-ish and my dad thinks it would be too much pressure to have people come in 60's or 70's costumes, which is why I though the moustaches would be kind of a riot!

On a side note, Liza is crawling and pulling herself up on EVERYTHING!! Where is my little baby ???

  • I think the margarita thing sounds cute, but you are right it could get to be too cinco de mayo ish.

We did my dad's 60th last year and literally just had people over, we ordered from Andino's and had a cake. I decorated with all 60 things.

And I'm doing a 40th for my brother in a few weeks. It's at a bar and I'll decorate. Thats about it lol

  • I love mexican parties!  We had a diego party for Elijah's 2nd birthday and I did all "spanish" food.  I had Rice and Beans, Tacos with beef/chicken, empanadas and something else (sans Margaritas!)

You could make or buy Margarita Cupcakes in lime and strawberry.  I like the photo op Idea. Check online or at I-Party, sometimes they have these things called "Scene Setters" that are cool backgrounds for photo ops.  Maybe you could have a few of those props available for the funny photos.

You could keep it simple, with a few things that really shine and it will be fine.

  • I love the photo booth idea!  The mom on one of my favorite blogs did something very similar for her son's second birthday:  http://www.becoming-mom.net/2010/08/24/jaspers-second-birthday-backyard-bonanza/

Having thought bubbles may also be fun:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/PlayingGrownUp?section_id=7683161

I could go on and on, there are tons of great resources for photo booths right now.

Also, is she a Jimmy Buffet fan?  Maybe you can do margarita's with more of a Caribbean feel?

  • I think your ideas sound great!  And I love the photo booth idea.  We set up a poloroid photo booth area at our wedding and just set out a whole bunch of wigs, boas, hats, glasses, etc that we collected from family & friends. It was fun!
