So, if I think I'm right yesterday was the day you eat pancakes. Except we're having them tonight. I could look it up but can you remind me why.

Any special pancakes I should be eating, special menu?

I don't think it has to do with the Jewish religion. I think it's a Catholic thing for Shrove Tuesday?

We eat potato pancakes during Hanukkah (and in my case, all the time).

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Shrove Tuesday is more commonly known as Pancake Tuesday or Pancake Day.

In Canada, among Anglicans, Lutherans, some other Protestant denominations, including ethnic British communities, as well as Catholics, this day is also known as Pancake Tuesday, as it is customary to eat pancakes.^[5]^[6]^[7]

Pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foodstuffs such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent. The liturgical fasting emphasized eating plainer food and refraining from food that would give pleasure: In many cultures, this means no meat, dairy, or eggs.

In Newfoundland and Labrador items are frequently cooked in the pancakes. Children take delight in discovering the objects, which are intended to be divinatory. For example, the person who receives a coin will be wealthy; a nail that they will be (or marry) a carpenter, and such.^[8]

Hey, I want a pancake day! Eric was raised Catholic AND Irish and he didn't make me pancakes last night! Hmph. He did make me duck, quail eggs, crostini, and hollandaise sauce, though, so I can't *** too much, huh?

Yes I was just going to comment that it may be Anglican or British since my English, raised-Anglican-but-now-Methodist BFF is the only person I know who observes pancake day. We all should, I think. But since most of us missed it, I declare March 10 Pancake Day Strikes Back. I do have the authority to do this. You're welcome.

It's so funny, I had never actually heard of Pancake Day until I saw a few of my friends have it twitter or whatever, so we did have pancakes Tuesday night...not for any significance, but I saw people were having pancakes, and I'm like, Damn, I want some pancakes. But, you know, I'll have them again, gladly.

It was a unanimous Supreme Court Ruling. Unfortunately there is a loud presence of anti-same sex marriage (I don't know if they're the minority or majority, but they're loud) and when three of the judges came up for a retention vote, they lost and were kicked off the bench. Bob Vander Plaats, a freaking psycho Republican (who lost the bid for Rep. party gubernatorial candidate), ran a huge campaign to vote no on the retention leading up to the vote last November. Now the same group is trying to convince the new (Republican) governor to get the ruling overturned and put it up to a public vote, which they believe they'll win. It's really sad. And pathetic. For now, the governor is saying he's got more things to worry about, like balancing the budget. Stay tuned.

i've never heard of pancake day either... but thanks, rachel. i think i'll be having pancakes tonight. not ryan though, he's another one that won't do breakfast for dinner. weird men!
