***Rachel & Blair***

I know both your little guys are eating mainly (or all) "table food" now.  Would you mind sharing with me what types of food you're giving them.  It seems that the one thing I'm "new mommy nervous" about is feeding Amelia anything that isn't specifically labelled for babies.

Re: ***Rachel & Blair***

  • Nate's first finger foods were Gerber puffs and yogurt melts. I was afraid he wouldn't know how to chew, and they dissolve pretty quickly. Once I was comfortable with his chewing, we moved on to Cheerios and table food.

I started with veggies that he had as purees - green beans, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes - overcooked so they'd be really squishy. Then, cheese, beans, pasta, rice, bread, and eventually meat. Once we'd been through most of our usual dishes, I started just cutting up Rodgers and my meal into tiny pieces for Nate. He actually eats better now if he can see that he's eating the same thing we're eating.

I use this website sometimes to come up with ideas for feeding him more veggies, since he goes through "I hate veggies" phases. I know he likes them, just sometimes have to find a way to trick him into eating them...

  • We pretty much did it like Rachel. Puffs 1st then we just started feeding him off our plates. He loves cheese, fruit, waffles and yogurt. I would just start cutting up tiny pieces of what you eat and see what she will take. I'm having trouble getting Brock to eat veggies and meat right now. The kid needs protien and I can't just keep feeding him fruit and cheese. He's so skinny! I'm about to start putting syrup on his waffles!

Like everything else with parenting it's trial an error. Good luck!

Lol! Nate is skinny, too. He's wearing 12 month pants because he needs the length, but he can't keep them up! The shorts he's worn on our really warm days are the same ones he was wearing last summer.

  • Thanks, ladies.  Amelia has been eating puffs for awhile now.  We've also given her wheat bread, graham crackers, pancakes and cheese.  I'm just having a hard time making that leap to everything else.  I just look at "non-baby" foods and think there's no way she should, or could, eat it, too.  I don't really know why I'm having the block.
