So DH and I were talking today and we decided that we want to take a trip late summer/early fall (probably going to be early August, because once school starts up, he'll be too busy). We want it to be a trip for us, not a visit family type of trip. Oh, and we're going to start TTC in June or July, and we're still in debt repayment mode. So where would you go? AI in Mexico, another trip to Costa Rica (our HM was surprisingly less expensive than I thought it would be), somewhere domestic that we've never been? Suggestions?
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

Re: Need trip ideas
San Diego is lovely that time of year.
If your TTC plans are successful early on (in June or July), you probably want somewhere were you can just veg out and relax in August. Have you been to Hawaii? What about on a cruise?
We stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun on our honeymoon. It was lovely. We actually wish we had done fewer excursions and had spent more time hanging out at the resort, enjoying the amenities and such.
I've also heard that Bampf, Canada is AMAZING and really, really reasonably priced. I had two friends go for their honeymoons and they loved it. Granted, I have no idea where in Canada is actually is...I think closer to the west?

We're heading to Jamaica in May and I'm super excited -- it wasnt as cheap as I was hoping but we are doing an AI and didnt have the flexibility to choose the resort since its for a destination wedding for my cousin so we definitely could have done it cheaper. We did use miles to pay for the flights -- signed up for the credit card and earned 50k miles for free which was enough for 1 ticket and DH had about 35k from work travel so we just had to use the card to accumulate miles for about 3 months and then we bought the shortage for about $150 total - saved us about $1000. The resort is another $1700 for the week so its still a really cheap trip for a week at a nice resort.
We did the Dominican for our HM and thought it was great but there isnt a lot to do off the resort -- if you just want to hang out at the pool/beach though its a great place to go. We stayed at Excellence punta Cana which was a great place.
If I was going to plan a trip right now I would actually go to Napa Valley - it's hopefully next on my list of US places to visit. However, if you are TTC and may be pregnant, I think I would go the Carolinas route or something along those lines -- I wouldnt want to waste the money for an AI if you can't drink and would definitely put off Napa.

Hawki, are you saying just signing up for a card got you the points for one flight? What card is that?!!
I suggested Napa to DH, and he didn't seem interested, unfortunately. I thought it would be a great pre-ttc trip, and I've always wanted to go. Chances are if we plan this, we'll probably hold off TTC until we're on the trip. I just don't want to risk morning sickness ruining it for me. I found a 4 night trip with airfare and AI for $2200 total, which was way better than anything else we've found. We haven't done the research on putting together our own package (flight/AI). Whatever we do will have to be relatively short (no more than 5 days or so) to minimize time off at work, as I'm trying to bank time for an eventual maternity leave.
