tiff

have you seen the episode on True Life? it's talking about being raised in the bayou. I'm only about 5 min. in. I didn't realize it was legal to drink underage in LA as long as your parent was present.

Re: tiff

  • I've heard about it, but I haven't seen it yet. I don't know what MTV was thinking when they filmed this. As far as I know, it's not legal to drink before you are 21 no matter who you are with. Sounds like some misinformation that is just accepted in that area. I hate shows like this and swamp people. I promise there are normal people in Louisiana who use correct grammar and are afraid of alligators... :)
  • So...I googled and found an article that said this: "Illinois and Louisiana, along with 29 other states, still maintain lax laws that allow minors to drink in a private residence as long as a parent or guardian is present."

So...it seems that is the case in 31 states...

  • I guess if they are going to drink it might as well be at home where parents can watch them and know that hopefully they won't be drinking and driving.

It is funny how TV shows certain areas to be so completly different then they really are. Like in TN they think we are all red necks who live in trailers, spit, chew tobacco and don't do anything. There are people in TN who are like that (and there is nothing wrong with that) but we are all not like that. I just think it is funny.

  • I thought I had heard that. I am not sure if MS has that law or not.

I agree with Heather. Being from the south tv portrays as uneducated rednecks most of the time it is false. There are people like that but the majority of us are not.

Yeah, but it's like the parents encouraged it. The mom was like 'do yall need a drink?' The kids were regularly drunk on the show. They also threw big drinking parties for the kids' friends.

  • I remember when I was in high school I had a friend and her parents let her and her friends drink while they were at their house. The parents bought the alcohol for them and the kids just freely did it while they were over there. I was never allowed to go to that girls house. But it was common knowledge growing up. I do remember a couple of times we would have big parties and her parents bought stuff for her to take with her. I am still shocked that her parents were like that.

Oh and the girl she became "that girl" in high school that was very loose. I remember one day in cheer practice on a saturday that friday night there was a huge party and apparently she had sex with many boys that night and at practice she said her mom kept asking her who was the best.

Oh I didn't know that. That is not good. I thought it was more like well mom and dad are having a glass of wine or beer can I have one too kinda thing. Not cool when you throw big drinking parties for kids as they seems very irresponsible and very risky.

yeah she was very klassy! She recently befriended me on FB..yuck. But I wanted to see how klassy she was now and apparently she has 5 kids now and been married 3 times. She looked like she had been rode hard and put up wet. So so thankfully I never really hung out with her it was bad enough to be on the same cheer squad as her. And the worst part she is gorgeous and really could have made something with her life it is sad.

we do we now have 6. I think we are crazy cause we are looking at buying 2 from my MIL friend. They are older horses and the owners are very mean to them. Still riding them rough they are even trying to train one of their granddaughters on it for barrel racing and not taking care of them. When in really they more than  just need to be pasture horses. So we are thinking about offering them some money for them just do we can respect the horses. If that makes sense. I still train barrel racing I have about 4 girls right now. I love that and wish I could make it full time but cant. I have thought about going to school for theaputic horse riding. There is not a place around here for that and I think I have a couple good horses for it. Me and another girl I ride with are considering it.

I still have 3.  Sadly, I haven't been able to do much with them lately, as in the last couple of years. Between being pregnant and raising a young kid.  I had planned on starting Bug out once the weather was nice, but now since I have another tadpole cooking it will be a while longer.  Makes me sad that right now my horses are pasture ponies, but what can I do, right?

I think you should do the therapeutic riding.  I have seen 1st hand what that does and it is a great program.  We don't have anything like that around here either.  Heck, we don't have much of anything around here =/  Have you looked into what kind of demand there would be in your area?
