Do you think I should sell my glider?

We bought this glider & ottoman at BRU for $240 before DD was born. It is a nice glider, but I NEVER use it. I always nurse DD in the living room so I can watch TV, or in bed first thing in the morning and before bedtime (so we can nurse side lying). I mentioned this on a "waste of money" post on the Austin board, and someone offered to buy it (no price mentioned).

Might I use this when she gets older and isn't nursing anymore, like for story time or right before bed or something? Or should I sell it? It would be nice to open up the space in the nursery so we could store some toys in there. Plus I could use the $$ to buy more nursing tanks and the fisher price stride to ride dino I've been eying. But, I feel sad letting it go because I always envisioned rocking my baby and reading her a story (she never liked to be rocked, but maybe baby #2 will?).

Re: Do you think I should sell my glider?

  • If the offer is good I'd take it. You can do story time on the couch, or anywhere else. I got a rocker so I could put it out on my porch once we were done. I don't think I've sat in that since she started sleeping through the night. Yes , they are nice and you have that image but I think getting a few things you want may be better. Oh and Caroline loves her dino. Although, I'm starting to call him puff the magic dragon since she doesn't listen to me when she is walking with that thing :)

I would sell it.  I didn't get a glider, because I didn't envision myself using it much.  We just put a Ikea poang chair in there, and I never sit in that either.  I always nursed him and read to him on the couch.  So I'd sell that fancy contraption; if you're not using it now, I can only imagine you'd have even less reason to use it later on.

  • I say sell it if you don't use it.

Abe and I use our glider a lot for stories and nursing and just hanging out...but that is just us!

  • We have a rocking chair that DH built (it's what he does) that I never used for nursing or for anything else when Ridley was an infant.  She has just recently started to ask us to rock her, mostly when she is trying to procrastinate going to bed.  I am so happy I have it because I LOVE that time with her.  She isn't very snuggly, so on the rare occasion that she requests snuggles, I jump on that train.

  • We have a standard rocking chair in Helen's room that we didn't use much when she was a infant but now it gets used every afternoon and night for story time before nap/bed.  DD has long since outgrown sitting in my lap but it gives me a spot to sit while I read her stories.  DD had a child size rocker that she sits in next to me.

Story time (before nap/bed) on the couch in the living room would never work for us.  The living room has a lot of toys in it and it is somewhere she associates with playtime.  Moving her into her room, shutting the door, and reading stories is a great way to transition her into quiet time/sleep.

  • Ok, I was totally going to sell it until I got to clouts and Mainely's responses and  my gut reaction was like "Yay! I can keep it!" So I've decided that's a sign not to sell it. And then I bought Lily the dino anyway :P
