so excited - HR stuff

so i'm sure Mel is aware, working in HR, that there is a PHR certification (professional in human resources) that you can take an exam for and become, well, a certified HR professional which puts you ahead of the crowd. there are 2 professors (with doctorates and GPHRs (global professional in HR)) that are going to be leading a 2 1/2 month prep course to help prepare for this exam.

i had been going back & forth if i wanted to take the course and/or sit for the exam.....but i got an encouraging email from my former HR director today and i decided to go for it!! i'm so excited!! if anything else, i'm excited to get even more education in the HR field AND just the opportunity to TRY to pass the PHR exam (i'll take the test in june - a couple weeks after i finish the prep course, fresh on my mind!!). we'll see !  i'll study as hard as I can and try my best!

Re: so excited - HR stuff

  • I am certified. I got it in june 09. I didnt take a certification prep course and passed just fine.

Honestly it hasn't done anything for me yet, but maybe one day.

Have you been in an HR professional job long enough to even take the exam? I know there used to be requirements.

Oh and good luck! I wont say it was easy but if you prepare, you'll be fine

  • i have my masters (focus area was HR) so all i need is 1 year (exempt level) experience to go with it....and i've got more than that. i've had several friends attempt it and not pass and say "it was so hard" - so i'm just gonna try my best! kudos to you for passing, that gives me encouragement. as a military spouse moving around as much as we will, i think the certification will be a good thing as i'll have many-a-job search and a lot of competitors along the way. it may be an advantage, but who really knows.

i think the prep course will be good to expand my knowledge and give me an idea of what to expect in the exam. any sort of additional training is up my alley. but no matter what - they can never take away education and i really enjoy learning  - so i'm excited for this opportunity.

thanks for the good luck!! :D

  • Good luck!
