Reception question for a friend..

Because I'm too afraid to post anywhere on TK anymore so I'm asking my wonderful ladies here. So here it is...

She's getting married in the mountains next March. They're renting a cabin (probably two). The ceremony will be for family only and all of the friends will be at the other cabin where the reception will be (I guess). She'll probably do the iPod thing instead of a DJ and she only wants a First Dance. She doesn't dance otherwise. She's worried about what in the world the photographer will takes pics of if no one is dancing. Btw, most of her friends and his friends don't dance (not sure about family) so is there anything than she could do to liven it up since most people won't dance? Or will she just have a bunch of people eating at the reception pics?

Thanks ladies and I hope this made sense!

Re: Reception question for a friend..

  • i didn't think many people would dance at our reception and i was surprised how many did.  alcohol and a full belly losen people up, IMO.  so there might be more dancing than your friends expects.

  • I thought mine would dance and they really didn't...it just depends on the day I guess. My photog got alot of shots that really mean more to me than dancing. Like hugs from family that hadn't seen each other in forever and people generally laughing and having a good time.
  • There will be booze there so maybe that'll help. If not, she does have family that will be in from OOT so hopefully the photog will get some great shots and she'll be happy.

Most of our reception pics were taken after people ate, and while they were mingling and chatting.  There were also dancing pics, but we had specifically asked that she go around to each table.

Maybe just make sure the photog isn't going around while people are eating, because who wants to see that?

Agree.  We do have some great dancing shots, but the majority are not dancing and we still have a lot of great pictures of people chatting, hugging (especially when people were leaving and saying goodbye), etc.  Even with the dancing shots, most of the pictures I love the most are the couples slow dancing during the anniversary dance, not the fast-paced 'fun' stuff.  I think my photographer mostly followed us around, so he caught our interactions with our friends and family, and some of their interactions with each other, and that to me is better.

  • Our photog and videog focused a lot on the dancing.  I actually wish they had taken more group shots with just people mingling, or even staged shots of people together.

I feel like if you weren't dancing, there was barely any record of you having been there.

At one point, I made the DJ call out different groups - like "Philip clan"  or "Smithsonian crew!"  and had them assemble in one area so I could get photos with them.  I didn't do everyone, and sincerely wish that I did.
