Where is your favorite place in Europe?

DH and I are trying to plan a trip to Europe for this summer, but are struggling on where to go. We have been there once to: London, Amsterdam, Germany, Barcelona, Switzerland, all over Italy, and Paris. I would love to go back to Italy and/or Switzerland. But I would also love to explore some new places. So we are looking at ideas.

So, if you have been to Europe and absolutely loved some place you traveled to where was it? We are thinking of going for about 10 days. So maybe hitting up 2-3 places.

Thanks so much!

  • I absolutely adore Paris and have been there twice and could go back  a dozen more times and still not see it all!  I'd love to hit up Greece.
  • My travels in Europe have been limited, but I loved everything about Norway, that's been my favorite. Loved it! The landscape is simply breathtaking. The only bad thing is that it's really expensive. We were lucky and had family to stay with so we didn't have the hotel & rental car expenses, but still, it was not cheap.

Andy has traveled much more throughout Europe, he was stationed in Italy for 2.5 years when he was in the Air Force. Geneva is one of his favorites. He also loved Paris. And Munich (although all the free-flowing beer during Oktoberfest probably helped that one!). The only place he wasn't totally thrilled with was Zurich, and he used to have to go there fairly often when he worked for a financial company based there. Supposedly Zurich is getting better with more fun things to do, but he thought it would be kind of boring as a tourist destination.

  • DH and I went to Malta on spring break when we lived in Rome.  It's an interesting place.  It's really detached from everything though so unless you're going to the south of Italy I don't know that I'd make the effort to get there.

    Switzerland is gorgeous but expensive.

Yes, we have been to Rome. And loved it! But that is the struggle. Do we go back to some place we have already been? OR try new places?

  • I enjoyed going East- Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary.  I have always wanted to go to Turkey though. . .

I guess it depends on what you want to do/see.

  • In Europe, I've only been to Copenhagen, so I don't have any basis for comparison...

But another country that is supposed to be pretty amazing is Croatia.   It's kind of up-and-coming as a tourst destination, and I've heard it's gorgous (the pictures online certainly seem to support this!)

  • Galway, Ireland. If you wanted something that specific. But really, the entire west coast of Ireland is wonderful.

My favorite cities in mainland Europe are Rome and Prague.

  • I loved Munich and Salzburg--my favorite place ever is Neuschwanstein castle, so fairy tale.  We were in Lucerne Switzerland, but there wasn't a ton to do there, although it was breathtakingly beautiful.
